Z690-I: Where is the M.2_1 slot located: Bottom or Top? Solution: M.2_1 is at the Top

Hi,

cannot find the  M.2_1 slot location in the manual as there is no side view image. My system does not offer a glimpse because of the Noctua NH-D15 air cooler.

Does anyone know this?

yes it does

The z690i  have 2 versions. if you remove the metal cover and you see if say M2_1 (that is the second version

Remove this 2

then this is exposed.

If you see it like this that is the one on the manual.

Thank you for your efforts and the helpful images. 

I've done a lot of upgrading including M.2 s with this board already. It's just now that I'm not inclined to open the box.

So if I got it right you say there are 2 'versions' of the board? What do you mean by this? From your image M.2_1 clearly is the top position.

That's all I needed to know. Thank you. 

It would be nice if the Asus Manual could include a side view image.

Update: 

Just found a pic from my board from 2022.

It's  crystal clear now:

M.2_2  is at the Bottom. M.2_1 is at the Top. 

This is M.2_2  with my old 970 Pro. like shown in UEFI as well. Now I'm about adding a second 990 Pro 4TB.

for os i will recomend to use M2_1 since is wire to the cpu. 

question that is your machine? make sure use M2_1 even that is label. No idea why is like that. i try to get one of those board but miss the opportunity to do so. i really want one. but let see stuff now here at home is hard to make any investment and getting second hand is a hit miss scenario.
