Z690 Formula PCH hitting 90-92C should I worry?

I was just wondering if I could be concerned about such a high PCH temp. PCH will stay around 75-78 while doing lite things but reach 90-92C while gaming. I have good airflow 011 XL with 6 fans in 3 out. It probably doesn't help that I have M2_2 and M2_3 occupied plus my Strix 3080 sits right on top of it.

I had high pch temperature on my rog strix z690 f
(65°c to 70°c without doing anything)
I mounted my gpu vertically, now the temperature is good (54°c without doing anything)

I did that with the Crosshair VIII Extreme, and shaved about 5 to 10C off the temperature of the X570S chipset. With a big Strix GPU cooler both obstructing the case airflow and dumping some of its own heat over the chipset heatsink, it made a nice difference. I think the Z690 may run a little hotter than the X570S (which is already a hot chipset), and front vertical mount in the Helios case both looks good and leaves plenty of case air flowing freely over the chipset heatsink (and the Helios has enough depth to let the GPU fans still get plenty of air in the front slot).

I can confirm with Z690 extreme, 2 980s on the mobo and the pci5 m.2 slot empty my PCH is hitting 50s idle and higher 70s full load. The weird thing is im not hitting crazy high temps with the cpu package or the various cores. Its only the PCH running abnormally hot.

Whats the default voltage for the z690 pch ?
*On the tweakers paradise its says 1050mv and 0.820mv

Its on auto, but lowering slighty this values the temps come down from 82 to 60 c, but the voltage in hwinfo is 1.400mv for the pch, but what voltage do you guys see in hwinfo*

We tested the overclocking situation with the ROG MAXIMUS Z690 FORMULA and the temperature is in the normal value range.

Same problem here with Z690 Formula

Have a look at the posts here as well - different motherboard I know (Hero), but the idea is the same.

You can very easily mount a fan to blow onto/over the PCH heatsink. Quick, simple, cheap and doing that will bring the temps down for sure.

Oh I see, yes, lol. Nice build by the way. I have just looked properly at the Formula motherboard - it has a lot of covers over everything, but has a very good spec. Nice high-spec piece of kit...

I do not believe that you could publicly confirm that the team did in fact test the z690 PCH temps with all m.2 slots populated.

I challenge you hereby to do so !


They clearly did not test it with 3 or 4 slot GPUs in 0-fan-mode!
Otherwise they would have come up with something like this to keep the PCH from overheating:

And that was needed AFTER i switched out the dried up 2mm pad underneath.
Why not make it 4 instead of 2 screws so that you can use 1mm pads or paste?
