Hi, just adding a quick question, do I really need to use a thumbdrive to update bios? If I go to bios page I can browse to the upodate file on my harddrive. Is this a bad method? Have Z690 E Gaming mb.
Thanks

You can browse the file from your hard drive if you wish (place it in the root of the drive is best). I have always used a thumb drive (which you will have to use for flashback anyway) and I think that's the recommended method and I would say the same. However, if EZ Flash 3 reads the file OK from the hard drive, you should be fine. Make sure that your main drive is not encrypted though (like with bitlocker) otherwise the BIOS will not see the file if it needs it again after a reboot. That's why a USB stick is best.
Anyway, I always use a FAT32 formatted stick, so that's the only method I can recommend really.

It’s always advised to use a FAT32 formatted USB pen drive for either USB Flashback or EZ Flash, although the latter does support NTFS.

I have performed every BIOS update on my Z690 from a BIOS file saved on an internal hard drive. No problems at all.
I have however found that exporting/importing BIOS settings requires a USB drive.

I just updated to 2602 on my Apex board. Everything seems OK, except my 4090 now runs at 4x8 instead of 4x16. I can find where I can select the PCI generation in the bios, but forcing it from AUTO to GEN4 doesn't change it from 4x8. It was fine at 4x16 on 0811 (what I had before I updated). I did update the ME before 2602. I only have Gen4 980 pro in M2_1. Any ideas appreciated.

Update: I powered off the power supply and removed the power cord. Then I removed the video card and air dusted the video card slot. Not sure which made the difference but it's back to 4x16 now.

That's good to know. I've heard before that a complete power off at the PSU can fix some issues, so perhaps that's what did the trick 😆 I'm not sure why, but if it works then that's all good.

Hi @JohnAb
I am one of the users who suffered with the BIOS 2305, and I had to do the whole rollback process on the OC forum.
After that, I have not updated BIOS. I continue with the BIOS 2204 of the rollback.
Based on your experience with the latest version 2602, do you recommend me to update to BIOS 2602?
