XMP7200Mhz not stable on Asus Z790 Dark Hero

Kopernikus

Hi,

I have an Asus Z790 Dark Hero with an Intel 14900K CPU running latest BIOS.

For DDR5 I have 2X 16GB 7200Mhz Dominator RGB memory (CMT32GX5M2X720).
I bought these because they where on the "normal" Z790 Hero QVL list.
However I deciced to buy the Dark Hero instead.

At XMP I start getting on memtest.
When I lower to 7000Mhz it passes.

What adjustments/tweaks could I do to get 7200Mhz to work?

Or if I stay at 7000Mhz should I change timings?

80 is a good score, yes.

You can try lower values, too (MCVDD). Between 1.25v - 1.4v.

XMP II may also net better stability, as will use less optimised sub-timings.

Hi,

Check to see what auto rules are applying for VCCSA (System Agent) and MC VDD (Memory Controller Voltage), tuning these may aid stability.

Hi,

My VCCSA set to Auto is reading 1.345V

My MCC VDD set to 1.450V is reading 1.470V

What shoud I change?

CPUs vary, you may find the system is more comfortable at a lower VCCSA.  Try 1.25v, you can work up and down incrementally.

MC VDD (Memory Controller Voltage) Try values between 1.4 and 1.5v.

AI Tweaker > MC SP Test should give you an indication of the quality of the CPU's memory controller.

Thx for the tips, I lowered my VCCSA to 1.25v and it ran for 4 hours and got one 1 error (memtest).
Before I got multiple errors after 30 mins.

What would be the next step? Is 1.25v the lowest or should I try even lower?

You’ll just need to keep tuning. If the system is more comfortable at 1.25v you can try moving lower or higher in 20mv increments. You may need to elevate MC VDD, too. These are the two easiest rails for tuning memory tuning on the platform.

Hi,

I did the MC SP test and I got 80, is this good?

Still haven't found a stable setting, raising MC VDD gives worse results, gues it doesn't like high votages.

The Z790 Apex Encore is cheaper then the Z790 Dark Hero and I can still exchange, interesting or not?
Apex Encore seems to be more stable, but what a I loosing?

Finally got it stable (Memtest) after reseating the RAM and VCCSA at 1.25V and MC VDD at 1.4V.
