Undervolting my Z690 - Intel Extreme Tuning Utility not allowing me to change the voltage offset.

Hello,

My processor is running fairly warm  and I would like to try undervaulting to make the temperature less using XTU. First XTU would not open (giving a protection error) and I fixed that by enabling undervaulting protection.

Now XTU opens but I have a yellow lighting next to the volting option, where it wont work because undervaulting is protected. Seems like a catch-22, what am I doing wrong here?

i fixed it, contrary to some post I found, undervolting should be on disabled and you also have to disable Intel Virtualization Technology.

Without undervolting my system in the Cinebench test thermal throttles. What I did was undervolt with -0.050V*, which decreated my temperature so that I didn't thermal Throttle anymore.

Next was able to set my Performance Core Ratio from 48x to 49x to 51x. On the 51x setting Thermal Throttling happened on 1 core so I stopped. The system is stable.

My Cinebench score went from 24.907 to 26.448

Any tips on what else to do?

*this value I saw in videos on undervolting on YouTube

You didn't even read my reply lmao

Which board?

You need to revert the CPU microcode.  This option may depend on the BIOS version currently installed.

Undervolting should not be tied to a specific board edition

Didn't say it was, and without looking not sure if it is.

Intel introduced undervolt protection.

Im on a rog strix B760 but I'm sure you are going to say that since its not a Z series I shouldn't be entitled to claim undervolt capabilities

Nobody is entitled to anything, so you're partly right.

The requirement is the 0x104 microcode. The switch should be available from BIOS 1205, maybe check under Tweakers Paradise.
