SSD badly throttling in the Z790i tower arrangement of M.2 drives down to near zero throughput

M.2 SSD read drops to nearly zero due to heat.

This will require a complete disassembly replacing the factory heat pad and reassembling it all again due to poor Asus design of M.2 sandwich tower.

Pad is original, not damaged, and covers the SSD fully (checked - it is not skewed or distorted).

Possibly, SSD throttling is related to an air gap between ROG-supplied thermal pad and SSD.
Should I ask Asus for a replacement thermal pad or just go buy a thicker one hoping it will be compatible and not void warranty? 

At this board price one would expect Asus to include several SSD pads of various thicknesses.

my apology - I should have clarified. Top m.2 slot is occupied by an adapter, whereas the m.2 SSD is in the bottom slot. There are visible air gaps between the SSD and thermal pad.

In this m.2 tower sandwich heat dissipation is only into the tower, by conduction. Convection to air is very limited.

Asus should provide thicker thermal pads with the board, perhaps of several thicknesses.

What adapter? I’d disassemble it simply to inspect the flex on the top slot alone, it’s far too much.

What SSDs are installed in the system?
