since 0x129 microcode BIOS update: not stable with XMPII RAM profiles (PRIME95)

This is more for general community awareness rather than engaging in fault finding but:

Since applying 0x129 microcode BIOS update 2503 08/08/2024) for ROG Z790E Gaming WiFi (1st edition) with intel 13900K Then with all loaded optimised defaults + XMPII profile (Corsair CMH32GX5M2B6400C36 , 2x16GB sticks) , PRIME 95 blend tests fails very easily/quickly. NB: It has been about a year since I last ran these, but I was thorough back then.

All defaults (no XMP) seems stable running for about 20mins far.

Comments welcome. Speculation welcome. Fix suggestions welcome also (I've not got a clue how to approach RAM config timing issues, however, I may not be doing any testing any time soon)

I'm happy to provide more info and answers questions as and when I can though.

After bumping the ram voltage from 1.4 to 1.42 it seems to have fixed my issue. No more crashing in cinebench. I will keep you guys updated if I notice any more instability.

Edit: My windows starting blue screening so ig it isn't fixed.

With the memory setting at AUTO Versus XMP I or II, the computer was stable while playing the new Delta Force for about 3 hours. I may leave it this way or roll back to the previous BIOS.

I am testing enabling XMP and dropping the speed from 6400 to 6000. I will keep you updated. I am personally not going to roll back because I will rather have slower ram then risk the CPU.

after gaming for a couple of hours and running some benchmarks I can say that dropping to 6000 has solved my issue. I suspect it's due to the voltage changes in the bios update.

Edit: 6200 is also stable

If you guys are mixing 2 different memory kits together then that might be the issue.

MZ790AE Bios 1703, GSkill F5-8400J4052G24GX2-TR5S, 14900KS, EKWB D5 TBE 300, Seasonic Prime TX-1600 ATX 3.0, Asus Strix 4090 w/ HK block, Phanteks Enthoo Elite, Asus Claymore 2, Asus Gladius 3, Asus XG349C, Crucial T705, Windows 11 Pro

NOT mixing ram. My computer just rebooted while reading emails again. 15 minutes after startup. I am abandoning the Intel Baseline settings and going back to the ASUS Optimizations settings. Basically, what I had before the BIOS update. The new microcode should protect the voltage from spiking on the CPU. Hopefully this will be stable. I'll report back. Using 400A, 253w/253w, and XMP II. Undervolting by .05 as well.

I would also list all your hardware including the model number of the memory so everyone can review that information.

Are you using a contact frame? Are there any Q codes present?

From an earlier post.
CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 RAM 64GB (2x32GB) 6600MHz CL32 Intel XMP.

Why is anything else needed? If it does...what? The computer was running awesome prior to BIOS update, with BIOS update it randomly rebooted or shut down using the Intel Default/Extreme settings. I have since turned off that setting as mentioned above. So far, it is running stable. I am using a Thermal grizzly contact frame and water cooled CPU with a MO-RA3 420 Radiator. No Q Codes.

I have seen some USB issues causing crashes in the past, so listing your hardware helps to eliminate any conflicts with hardware others may have seen before. I would list everything just to make sure. I can't find a corsair 64g kit on the QVL for the Hero board. Max listed speed appears 6400.  There's no guarantee that your PC will work without issue with a new bios. There's always a chance parameters have been modified so that some tweaks and tunes to the voltages might need to be done. You might bump the VDD/VDDQ voltage and watch for instability. The SAV may need to be tuned as welll.
