Shoudl I buy the i9 14900 ?

Hi folks,
we are now in April 2025 and I am thinking of upgrading my i9 10850K to the i9 14900K(F).
I have read some horror stories about overheating in reviews of this 14th gen CPU.
If I buy a new ASUS m/b to match this CPU and upgrade the BIOS/UEFI right away will that resolve the overheating issues ?
This is a CPU that I plan to use for the next 5-10 years (hopefully)
Thanks

I'm running the i9 14900k and have zero issues with heat but you must verify latest bios version is all set to intel default settings under the ai tweaker and not the asus/rog let it all run super fast I haven't noticed any issue's with intel's default settings it loads pages just as quick but even so it can still hit 100 degree Fahrenheit when you run cinebench 23/24 being a casual user and a non-gamer I'm pretty sure I'm safe  from hitting those temps!

Hi @BrzIROG

If you plan to stick with Intel, I'd recommend skipping Z790 and going straight to Z890.

What is the system predominantly used for?

9800X3D / 6400 CAS 28 / ROG X870 Crosshair / TUF RTX 4090

I mostly want to improve MSFS 2024.
DCS world already runs fine ...
Do you think Intel has learned their lesson with the i9 CPUs and has gotten their game straight with the Z890 and Arrow Lake ?
Thanks

No platform is 100% perfect. I would purchase for your use case, and what offers the best all-around for that scenario. You'll see far more gains upgrading the GPU if you haven't done so already.

When I turn the dev mode on it tells me in no uncertain terms that it is CPU-throttled. My GPU 3080Ti is not the bottleneck.
Thanks

It will be, yes. But simply updating the CPU will not yield much gain. What resolution are you playing at for there to be a CPU bottleneck?

I would recommend the X670/X870 paired with a 9800X3D, but at 1440p or 4K the bottleneck will be marginal on your current setup.

Why would you knowingly recommend a CPU that's known to have accelerated degradation issues simply because you have one? The issues surrounding 13th and 14th gen CPUs is not directly associated with operating temps, so your post is of little consequence.

Remove that possibility of failure and buy something else @BrzIROG

Personally i wouldn't. Ive used intel for years before i switched to amd 9800x3d. There is zero comparison in gaming. Amd slaughters intel by minimum of 30fps in most games. Go team red and never look back
