Hi
Im running a Z790-E Wifi II with 14900K and Corsair H150i ELite XT LCD. The AIO is front mounted in a Corsair 5000d Airflow Case.
Running stock settings, no XMP, no overclocking, Intel default profile. Latest Bios 1602.
Ive been struggling with thermal throttling and at first thought it was my 14900k and all the issues that already surrounds that. I have now swopped in my old 12700K and i still feel that my cooling is subpar. Getting around 40-50c idling temps, and when running benchmarks or games the 12700k does reach and spike to 100c. ive reseated the cooler and re-applied thermal paste but getting the same results. In Icue i have confirmed that the AIO pump is working.
What I suspect is not proper contact between the AIO and Motherboard. (Although i cannot screw it down any further and no plastic stickers under the block.) what i did notice is that the Asus motherboard has "multiple" mounting holes and i was curios which ones people use. The outer ones or the inner ones, since the AIO mounting bracket can accommodate both. (See attached picture for reference).
I was expecting any benchmarking or games running with this cooler to never reach 100C or thermal throttle (for the 12700K). I don't think the AIO is faulty, either a mounting problem or settings in the BIOS. Going to move the radiator to the top this weekend and see if it makes a difference but any comments or suggestions welcome.

I have the same cooler with a 12900K and mine is mounted in the outer holes. I can't remember if the inner holes can be used or not, I built it over 2 years ago, but the outer ones are certainly OK. Make sure it's tightened evenly for the best thermal contact, not overtight, snug should be enough.
It's a good cooler in my experience, so hopefully relocating the radiator will help. My coolant normally runs at 30-31°C with a radiator fan speed of about 600 rpm. My pump runs at around 2250rpm. My CPU is normally about 31°C doing not much other then running Windows.
Obviously we have different CPUs so the comparison is not fair and ambient temp makes a difference, but hopefully that information is helpful.

Hi.
Just bought my first ever Asus motherboard yesterday, the ASUS - ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI (Socket LGA 1700) Intel Z790 ATX DDR5 Wi-Fi 6E Motherboard - Black. I also bought the Corsair H150I elite XT LCD and the i9 14900k.
Just waiting for my lga anti bend bracket and my pc case to arrive today then Ill be building it. Ill compare my temps and let you know my results.
But Mine will be different I think, as you dont have a contact frame on yours in that picture.

Hi,
The pictures were reference pictures grabbed from the internet, but cool, lets compare. im going to be on holiday soon and will only be able to test again mid Dec. Im also contemplating of changing my case to a Thermaltake tower 600 and replacing the corsair with the asus ryujin cooler. Im having endless corsair ICUE clashes with armory crate and at this point just want to run armory crate. But still thinking about this. Would like to see your temps with the contact frame and maybe before i drop the H150i i get a contact frame too, would be the cheaper option.

Oh Awesome.
My current rig is a 13700k with a 150i elite cappellix(non xt) 64gb ram z690 arous elite and rtx 4080. With a contact frame. My temps are horrible!(in a p500a case)
I have repasted several times, and even tried a coolermaster and a corsair 360.
Idle temps are 38 to 45, gaming temps are anywhere from 50c to 93c Thermal throttling in r23, even though it only reaches about 97c half the time. I get several hundred points below the expected benchmarks.
This time I bought new everything other than my gpu(waiting for the 5090) my ram(just bought it a few month ago) and my nvme.
everything else is brand new. Ill register my mobo once I open it, itll be in a MUSETEX y6 case. I didnt want to reuse my old case, because I have essentially 2 pcs now, if I decide to buy more ram for the old one)
You mention icue crashes.
Are you using any plugins? I have nvidia, gigabyte and govee plugins and it crashes more since using their plugins.
OMG this websites captcha is trash! lol I am human ffs
Also nice to meet you and I am super excited to try Asus. I have always used gigabyte, more due to budget than anything else, but I hear some good things about ASUS as of late.

i would install a anti bending bracket. i have a h150i cooler i had it on my 13900k and 14900k and i have had no issues whatsoever with it. temps have been fantastic so either this is user error or the socket is bending the cpu to where its not making contact with cooler. a anti bending bracket is literally like 10 dollars. there no point in not buying one.

OK I got my pc built.
Man, it wasnt easy, ASUS could keep the keychain and toss in a io connector plug in tbh, would be cheaper and more useful lol.
My own gripes aside, 14900k idle temps are very similar to 13700k, maybe a tad cooler.
35 to 39c with spikes into 46.(13700k was 39 to 45 with spikes to 50+, but intel is rmaing it for me)
Here are my max temps in r23. Not tried gaming yet. Bios is updated all drivers installed.
I may need to buy gpu mod cables, but other than that, 8 hours of cable management for this fish tank.
I am using the lga anti bend bracket.

Hi, i have the same Mobo with the same Cooler but with a 14700K, without contact frame.
My temps are 33 / 34 in idle and 80~88 during benchmark.

Are you able to XMP? I just went on a 4 hour living hell. I turned on XMP and couldnt boot, even cmos clear did nothing. Q 98 and Q55 codes non stop. Only fix was to take my ram from my other pc and use it to boot this pc and now I can use my ram again at stock, xmp will brick my mobo

Yes i can set XMP (it's not called XMP anymore btw, it's named DOCP I and II (i'm using DOCP 1)). My ram are 6000 btw, not 6400, I heard that going over 6000 can be problematic on that mobo, even if the ram are rated correctly... but that's just what i heard so i cannot 100% confirm that
Btw, the fact that clearing the CMOS doesn't restore it doesn't make any sense... that's really weird

Mine was stilled called XMP I think and it only gives 6400 as an option. Im too afraid to mess with it againb, my pc was black screen for 4 hours.
