ROG Strix Z790-E gaming wifi Ram choice danger?

Hey all, I've got a new build, z790-e that I just bought.

I selected 48gb of gskill t5z 7200 ram

Do you guys think I'll have stability issues running this with this board at 7200? Reviews are mixed. Ddr5 is like the wild west still and I'm wondering what you guys think. Should be able to bios click overclock it to that right? I think it's listed as the board max with and (oc) beside it.

Running a i9 14900kf with it.

Any info?

@AdamMcScribble,

Will be slower to get a response over the weekend 😄. 7200MT should be feasible depending on the CPU.

For better XMP/EXPO success or more chance of achieving "plug and play" overclocking, buy memory kits below the motherboard's maximum qualification (mid-table) on the motherboard QVL. The higher the frequency and tighter the timings, the more likely manual tuning might be needed to adjust for signal variance between parts. Success at or near the maximum on the validation table can depend on the strength of the CPU IMC. Contrary to assumptions, XMP/EXPO doesn't ensure automatic overclocking. Tighter timings or higher frequencies may require manual adjustments for stability.

What was the verdict here. I have a z790-e Gaming Wifi II and 14900k, i bought x2 kits of ram and plan to return one.

--32GB 7200 gskill

Believe it or not on the Asus Website for 14th gen and Gaming-2 v2.0 board the QVL lists the 48GB 7600 kit but NOT the 32GB kit (my assumption is they just need to edit this since the 13900k shows both kits)

Hey,

Soni was diagnosing stability issues that were probably unrelated and ended up swapping the 7200 that wasn't in the qvl with some 6000 that was. Gskill tz5 2*32gb

It runs fine with no errors with xmo profile applied to 6000.

Worth noting. That although the board is good to 7200, the cpu may not be. I think it's luck of the lottery. I'm pretty sure my 14th gen i9 only lists 5600. Overclocking or xmp from there is up to the silicone lottery to remain stable. I'm running at 6k with no issues though.

I'm also not a computer guru. Just an enthusiast who's built a few. So someone else probably has a better answer. I'm pretty sure that my board (wifi1) says 7200 is max oc. Maybe your wifi2 goes higher?

I don't think my issues were ram related. It ended up being PCIe riser issues that I had to remove to dial in to no errors.

Hope it helps.

I have this board too, and mine isn't stable over 6800 in Y-cruncher VST. Manual tune! My 14900KF have been tested by the guy I bought it from, to at least boot 9000 in an Apex. These 4-dimm mid-range boards are crap with RAM OC compared to the Apex.
