Rog strix Z790 E gaming wifi and NVME

Hello everyone,
I come to ask for help because I read everything and its opposite.
I will have to get a new GPU soon.
I currently have 2 nvme Gen4s including one mounted under the GPU slot.
Is it true that my GPU will have 8x bus speed instead of 16 if I leave my nvme there?
From the instructions I don't understand where to install my 2 hard drives for optimal operation.
Another question, is it possible that my RGB Rog logo on my motherboard is only on when my PC is on and turns off when the PC is off??
I can't get it to work... Either it's on all the time or it's off all the time.
Thanks in advance

Hi @belek37000

Have you inspected the manual? When M.2_1 is populated, the GPU will be reduced to 8 lanes. As you have GEN4 drives, you can utilise the other slots and leave the M.2_1 free.

You can set ERP Ready to S5 in the UEFI to disable lighting effects when the system is shut down.

Thank you for your reply.

There is no slot preference? I can install my 2 nvme on slot M2_2 and M2_3?

Hi,

The slot configuration info is readily available in the manual - here we can see that M.2_2 uses CPU lanes. This is preferable over PCH lanes where possible, so is the best configuration for a GEN 4.0 NVME here.

so whats his best option for the 2nd drive..which slot?  thank you

Use slots M.2_2 and M.2_3, then your GPU should run at x16.

You can use Armoury Crate to set what the lights do when the PC is on and if you look at Shutdown effects, you can change what it does when shutdown as well. Works fine for me that should should be the answer...

Hi

Sorry but I don't see in armory crate where you can deactivate the lighting effects when the PC is off.

Try playing around with the settings in all of the sections as shown below. Hopefully you'll be able to get things as you like them.

I'm confused.  I have my primary NVME Gen 4 in M.2_1 and secondary NVME Gen 4 in M.2_2 and I'm my GPU is getting PCIE x16 4 as reported by GPU-Z.

Motherboard:  Strix Z690-F
CPU: Intel i7 12700KF
GPU: EVGA RTX 3060 Ti
