Ever since BIOS 4001 was released for this specific motherboard, i had some type of weird idle coil whine when moving the mouse around and in some other type of idle scenarios, it was quite irritating at times. this BIOS version kept C1E state forcefully enabled.

Luckily BIOS 4101 just came out today and i was able to disable C1E again, and it removed the idle coil whine completely! 😀

If anyone has similar issues with this or other mobo's, try disabling C1E if possible. Just wanted to let everyone know.

Sounds like expected behaviour. Fluctuation in current, when power states are active, can create types of piezoelectric noise.

PSUs produce their own coil whine. How much depends on the quality, type, specs, and size of the components used.

As ripple frequency and other sources of power related noise can impact the level of coil whine, some combinations of psu and components may exhibit more noise than others. For a vendor, it is very difficult to account for all permutations.

Thanks for sharing. Have you faced any issues at all? I am currently on bios 3701, which is performing well, but I do get what I think is a GPU coil whine at strange times. I have a 12900k paired with 3080Ti. I might try this bios and see if it makes any improvements.

Besides the coil whine issue with bios 4001 (c1e state enabled), i had no issues at all.

I updated my Bios from 3101 to 4101 and it was a Mess... System runs in BSOD every 10mins... Rolled it back to 3801 and everything works fine...

Thanks, I was unaware that 4101 had been released. Personally 4001 has been great for me so far, no coil whine or anything like that. I'll try 4101 in a  couple of weeks (working hard on a project and can't afford any problems) and report back.

12900k User here who's also happy to disable C1E States. They are still on by Default, hoped that they are at least also off if I change to Asus OC Profile, no have to do it manually.

But may I ask another Question?

Are there any other BIOS Settings that also changed through the years or are there any other settings that I have to disable manually? ( like Install Armory Crate on Startup )

Any other "crappy bad" settings that are urgent to disable?

Most of the very advanced OC settings i just leave on auto (i have no clue what most of it is anyway). This is what i changed tho.

If you have closed case, make sure Aura is OFF on S5, soft off, hibernate. Otherwise LEDs on the motherboard will lit 24/7. The setting is not remembered in Asus profiles between BIOS updates.

When using Asus OC profile one should limit current and power to CPU on K series, but that's highly individual settings, and varies per processor. It's recommended moslty for 13 and 14 gen.

I've never had a problem with coil whine on my Z690F/12700KF, but I did have the problem where all of my CPU's cores would randomly drop to 800MHz, which didn't do any good when I overclock.

Decided to update with 4101 today, and was finally able to disable C1E.   All of my cores are where they're supposed to be again.  Yay!  I'm a happy camper.  😊

Have a Good One! 😎

4101: Nothing to report at the moment.  Took a bit longer while updating 'deleting database'  or something like that. Could import my 4001 BIOS settings. By the way I like the C1E state thingy helping  to reduce power consumption. Are there other benefits disabling it?
