Rog Strix Z690-A Board Incompatible with F4-4266C17D-32GTZRB Ram XMP Profiles

I bought this DDR4 ram (F4-4266C17D-32GTZRB) to go with my Z690-A board for 12th gen alder lake build however am having no luck using the XMP profiles. I tried to troubleshoot by inputting in my own manual settings and I can only get it to go as high as 3733Mhz. And this is with the latest bios update 0807. Anyone here can give me tips as to how I can get the XMP profiles to work or know of the numbers I should input to get to 4266Mhz as advertised by this ram card? Let me know, thanks!

You tried bios 0707? That is the best bios for memory OC on my Strix A.

Yeah, no luck either. 😞 I don’t understand why I am having this issue. I have to manually clock it to 3733Mhz which is well below the advertised ram kit’s 4266Mhz. XMP profiles don’t work either

I know dumb question. Just to make sure, you in slot a2 and b2?

Otherwise it should do 4000 gear 1 easy, gear 2 can be picky. Might need to try bumping up sa and vddq.

I have this MB and find gear 1 easier to get stable. But havent really messed with gear 2 much. I couldnt past 4600 in gear 2(with SR b die and hynix) so went back to gear 1 4133c15/DR b die.

I should have specified that I am running 4 sticks. Is that part of my problem? Or should it be able to handle 4 sticks? I will try 2 later when I come home

Okay, so the XMP profiles do in fact work with 2 sticks of ram however not all 4.

I am sorry why would you say gear 1 is easier to get stable? That has always been the hardest, as it brings better performance and lowers the latency.
Gear 2 is always the easiest to get stable at higher frequency, gear 1 syncs the memory and memory controller 1:1, at gear 2 it is 1:2 which leaves the memory controller at half speed.
You are very lucky if you can get past 3900 gear 1 with dual rank stick.

I know on z590 that was true. Just telling you what I have found on z690. With DR b die gear 2 is tough to boot and get memtest stable. Your mileage may vary.

Also depends on memory klit I have a dozen DR b die and currently using the 4000c14 kit and they dont like gear 2 on z590 or z690. They can be made to work in gear 2 but pretty much all my other DR kits are easier to run at say 4533 in gear 2 on 590.

I have gotten 4266c16 stable so far on z690 with DR. Probably at the limit. I didnt get much farther with SR.

Yep it will be more difficult to run 4x8. The MB is daisy chain and will do best with 2x8 or 2x16. To run your 4x8 kit you will have to manually set timing and clocks on mem down to say 3600 and try then go 3866 etc until you find the wall. Then you might end up at something like 3866c14-15-15-35 example.

To make it easy just set XMP 1 or 2 and then lower memory clock. Later you can tune timings if you want to something lower than defaults of 17-18-18-38.

Ahh okay thanks I think I understand. I ended up just going with the two and played around with some of the timings whilst maintaining the advertised 4266Mhz the ram kit provides. I noticed that if I wanted to go over 4266Mhz, I had to up the voltage to a scary amount. The XMP profile defaults to 1.5V which ended up not being enough voltage to boot into the 4400Mhz I clocked it at. I had to up it to 1.52V and when I ran some tests I had a bunch of errors.

I ended up just going back to 4266Mhz and changed up the timings to 17-18-17-36 and these were the AIDA64 results I got. Let me know what you guys think and if you guys might possibly have some more tips for a noobie like me haha.
