Hello,

New computer, clean windows and most recent bios,ME and drivers.
Every 5-7 days of usage, computer starts with bios. (this happens totally random, sometimes nothing happens for 8 days) No errors or info. Computer just starts with bios, ssd can be clearly seen on bios, date and clock is correct. I just save&exit bios and continue windows without problems. While using computer no errors, everything works just fine. Hours of playing games, watching streams etc.

System;

Intel i7 14700 KF

ASUS PRIME Z790-P

32x2 DDR5 Ram 6400Mhz GSkill

ASUS TUF RTX 4080 SUPER GAMING OC

Samsung 990 Pro 2Tb SSD

FSP Hydro GT PRO ATX 3.0 850W 80Plus

Rog Azoth Keyboard

Samsung S95b 55 inch TV

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi @gt426 , first a little tip.

Once you are in BIOS, you can connect a USB Drive and then press F12 to take a screenshot instead of taking pictures with mobile phones like you did above as the screenshot pictures will be lot more clear. The files saved are in BMP extension so you can open them in Windows 11 and using Ctrl+S save as JPEG file so that you can easily upload them here.

What power profile are you using in Windows? Balanced or High Performance?

What version of Windows are you using? Windows 11 23H2, 24H2, Windows 10 etc.

In which M.2 slot on your board did you install this Samsung 990 Pro drive into? Check your manual and mention the exact slot label from your motherboard layout page of the manual.

Do you have any other M.2 Drives installed in your build? If yes, please mention what all drives are installed and in which slot as well.

Hey @achugh,

Thanks for replying and appreciate  the tip, i agree the way i posted pics are kinda blurry. Apologies.
I'm using Balanced profile, but i've tried the high performance mode as well. No luck. Windows version is 11 Pro, 23H2

My Ssd is slotted in M2_3 at the moment. But i've tried M2_1 as well, same result. Only slot i did not try is M2_2 which is kind of under the GPU.
I do not have any other M.2 drives installed.

I only face this problem during cold start. I do not hibernate at all. I use fast boot but already tried disabling fast boot as well. Same result. No errors for 5-6 days, maybe a week. Then computer starts with bios.
I know this is not a huge deal, but bugs me very much and need a solution.

Thank you for helping me.

Hi @gt426 yeah M.2_2 will not do much for you since this slot is connected to the Z790 chipset like M.2_3 slot. Since you already tried using M.2_1 which is connected to the CPU, I am thinking that your problem is due to one of the following reasons:

  1. Power Management - Basically your device does not recognize that it is time to wake up and hence does not respond to the initialization sequences executed by the BIOS.
    1. Are you using any Power Management features in BIOS?
    2. Have you tried to press F5 to reset BIOS to default and without making any changes run a test.
  2. BIOS Configuration -  Under BOOT menu in BIOS have you tried to DISABLE FAST BOOT and ASUS LOGO DISPLAY. See the following information from your BIOS manual of your board

    achugh_0-1726530930250.png

as well as see my post https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-motherboards/z790-dark-hero-bios-1302-logo-patch-bsod-with-mult... about these two options.

If this configuration does not help, have you tried to ENABLE CSM in BOOT Menu as well to see if that helps you out.

  3. Device Compatibility - Since you are running the latest firmware on your drive and latest BIOS on your board, have you reached out to Samsung Support about your issue and see if they can look into it and provide a firmware update to solve this compatibility issue?

Good luck!

Hi @achugh

Thank you for detailed information. I'll try these options but testing will take time.
I've already tried disabling fast boot but i'll try every other step you've mentioned. As far as i know i am not using any power managment features, i'll check this as well.
Do you think this is somehow related to usb dongles? It sounds kind of absurd but sometimes you never know.
I've 3 dongles attached to computer, 1st is for Rog azoth, 2nd is for mouse and last one is for xbox controller. I'll take my chances, just wanted to ask your opinion.

Thank you!

i have 2 question.

1. why raid? You have 2 nvmes?

2. why the cpus temps are too high?

3. the bios land direct with no info like AMI screen?

Hi @MrAgapiGC ,

1- There is no raid. Only one ssd.

2- High temp? 60 celsius is high?

3- What are you meaning with this? Can you explain?

Thanks.

1. ok change that. (disable raid OR VMD.)  If does not boot then the installation was done incorrect

2. TEMP on 60 in bios IS horrible high and more with 40C board temp. what are u using to cool that cpu and what case? how hot is your ambient temp. OR you use cpu option to plug the aio pump??? or is a air cooler??

3. When you add the bios there is a message on AMI scrren. That say.... F2 to enter bios F5 to load default. then just, to be safe F10 to save enter bios and enable xmp. for normal operation that is the ONLY thing you need to do.

Hi @MrAgapiGC ,

1- I have not found any raid disabling option in bios but under Advanced system agent configuration i found VMD setup menu. Is this VMD you're refering? If so, i disabled it and windows did not start and blue screen.

One thing i'm trying to understand is, how do you tell that i'm doing raid? Don't get me wrong, just trying to figure out.

2- Hm i'm using air cooler and my case is Asus GT502 PLUS TUF. Cooler brand is: Dark Freezer X127.
When pc is idle on windows it's usually 40-45 celsius.
I think the temp was pretty hot at the time i was taking the photos. Not sure if AC was on.

3- Computer starts with Asus logo (Ami screen) default f2 or del to enter bios msg, then goes to bios without any notifications or errors.

Thanks.

How i know?

Is right there!

MrAgapiGC_0-1727133738288.png

That cooler is a toy. need someting nore biffy. I use 360mm aio for my 12700k so i can keep my temps on check on 32C ambient temp. on 25C ambien temp cine bench push 70C . so yes.

How old is that cpu?
