Performance decreased with new BIOS 1805 TUF GAMING B760-PLUS WIFI D4 + 13700KF

Hello, I updated my BIOS with new microcode since I own 13th series Intel i7 and I am afraid of whole drama surrounding 13th/14th gen Intel CPUs.

However, I am not happy with the new BIOS and performance of my PC. I set default Intel profile as recommended and thought thats it. However, I ended up with FPS drops after BIOS update. I noticed decreased temperatures but the performance dropped as well while gaming. WoW raids, fortnite max settings all cause massive FPS drops which did not happen before.

Did anyone else notice decrease in performance after applying new 1805 BIOS with intel profile on TUF GAMING B760-PLUS WIFI D4?

Any possible fix for that? What can I do?

My specs:

Intel i7 13700KF

Noctua NH-U12S

Nvidia 4080

TUF Gaming B760 Plus WiFi

Corsair RM1000e

Kingstone FURY 32GB DDR4 3600MHz

I am using the  TUF GAMING B760-PLUS WIFI D5, with i5-13600K CPU. Just updated the BIOS to 1805 today. Found no issues nor FPS drops so far. In fact the problems I had with BIOS 1661 slow boot is now gone, back to normal.

My probs with 1805 from Nov 24 on B760-F: 1.) coil whine / electric buzz vom psu, still when pc is off (also s5 set), 2.) coil whine 70%+ on gpu (4070) and 3.) bios flashback button ain't work any more.

Downgrade to 1666 beta - all probs are gone (like by all bios versions bevor).

Intel + Asus makes me mad...

Thinking about it, psu whining has been worse too since upgrading BIOS… is the downgrade only solution?

Does anyone have any guide on what to modify in settings to avoid i7 power issues with odler BIOS?

You can try disabling "Processor Performance Boost Mode" in the advance power plan settings. Need to activate the option via registry editor though. But it does mean the CPU will only run on base clock speed.

Well, it's an high-priced psu in EU "FSP Hydro Ti Pro 1000 Watt PSU" and the problem is only on the 1805 bios version. A friend of mine got the same psu. So I plugged out my psu and installed in at a friend of mine (with new ryzen). Also no problem.

Can't see currently any options to wait for a future update and meanwhile downgrade to 1666

@kjubs may I can ask you something. You told that you've got the 13700kf with noctua U12S, right? Can you tell me, how warm gets your cpu in idle and under "normal" load like gaming (maybe cs2, bo6, fortnite or kind of)?
Cause I own that cooler too and maybe interested to upgrade my 13500 - if there will be a good blackfriday deal. Did you renew the thermalpast on the u12s or leave it on?

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

I just updated to 1805 from 1663 on a B760-I MB. Update took 7 minutes with two restarts.  System returned to default bios. I had to activated secure boot.  My first attempt to boot into Windows 10 took longer than usual but worked. My system appears to be operating normally. Temperatures are the same as from before update.  I have not attempted to enable XMP yet.

@Chrissi84 Idle temps are around 28-30 degrees celzius. Under load, well, it depends. In WoW, its around 60-70 degrees, Fortnite almost everything maxed out 70-80. I did not renew the thermapaste, as I bought brand new pre-build.

Tbh I do not know if the temps are okay, seems kinda high tbh but on the other hand, I often come across posts stating that 90degress under load is normal with these Intel CPUs xD.

At this point I am just confused what to do and think.

@kjubs thanks for your quick response. Sounds good @ temps 🙂 So I'll keep my eyes open for black friday deal 😉
