I'm planning a storage project and have one of these Prime Z790-A WIFI mobos with a i7-14700 hanging around. Intel says that the CPU can handle 20 PCIe lanes. So if I wanted to have in order of importance:
1. one 3.0x8 fiber NIC
2. two WD Red SA500 SATA drives in a RAID 1
3. as many WD Black SN850X NVMe drives as I can
How many of the WD Blacks could I have and which M.2 slots would I use and which PCIe slot would I use for the fiber NIC?
I've been trying with all four M.2 slots populated and the fiber NIC in PCIe port 1 and am noticing slow iperf speeds on the NIC so i'm assuming i'm using too many lanes. Thanks for any help you can offer!
