New beta bios is out 9/27. Just FYI. Noted for my encore board. Have not checked other boards.

Just updated my Asus Z790-E Gaming Wifi II motherboard with this 1602 beta BIOS. I am running the Core i7 14700K.
WARNING! Even with selecting the Intel Profile, PL1 and PL2 were set to 4096 and amps set to 511.(whatever). This is not the same behavior as the 1503 BIOS! I manually set them to 307A and PL1 and PL2 both to 253.
I noticed my benchmark scores are even lower with this BIOS. I am likely going to revert to the 1503 for now until they take this off beta. I would also be careful using this, as it seems my motherboard is idling a good 10 Celsius higher using the same settings as the last BIOS. No more beta BIOS for me and I suggest anyone to use caution, you could be cooking your CPU (yet these BIOS updates allegedly are trying to prevent that!)
Can someone from Asus answer why this BIOS is running even worse and hotter, plus defaulting to dangerous levels? I know it is a beta BIOS, but it's kind of going in the opposite direction of intention.

Hi rick60411,
Thanks for pointing out the PL1 and PL2 were still set to incorrect values with this BIOS. I'll be sure to note my current settings from BIOS 1503 before updating. With the new BIOS 1703 now available, it will be interesting to see if these are still wrong.
If so, I'll adjust them to the correct values after updating to BIOS 1703 for my Z790 Dark Hero. Thanks again.

I have installed the new bios 1703 and still getting crashes in games and high temps around 85-92c (my cooler is ryujin III 360) i have changed my rams to intel xmp ones instead of the amd compatible.
so i changed to intel performance profile and everything became stable, got my temps down to 65-70 and no more crashes, but then after 2 hours the rams stopped working and getting error 55 on my motherboard i dont know how this is even relevant. I installed back my amd rams (corsair 64gb 7200mhz) and now it’s working fine

Hi vultz,
Sorry to hear you encountered higher temperatures with the Intel RAM and error 55. At least now its working with the AMD RAM. I'm only using Intel RAM (Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR5 RAM 64GB (2x32GB) 5200MHz CL40 Intel XMP, CMT64GX5M2B5200C4) so I don't have the option of switching.
Also since building my system just weeks ago, the first two RAM slots have never allowed the system to boot. Placing the Intel RAM in slots 3 and 4 and everything working perfectly. I'll wait until the end of the week before updating the BIOS. My system is stable but I want it to stay that way, to me the newer microcode is the best way to do that. Yes the existing 1503 BIOS has some stability fixes but I do wish to have them all.
I wish you every success with your system and thanks for sharing your experience.

As of today, 21st October, it appears BIOS 1703 for the Z790 Dark Hero is no longer available from the support website. The beta 1602 is back. I'm not sure what if anything this means.

Will this update fix the CPU from drawing a ton of power it doesn't need to draw?

No, not if it is setting the Motherboard to dangerous voltage levels. Read my post above. Limits for Core i9 13900k or 14900k should be 400 amps, 253 for both PL1 and PL2. 13700K and 14700K should be 307A. 253 for both PL1 and PL2. Even with Intel defaults, it set my 14700K to 511 amps and 4096 for both PL1 and PL2.
These are the very settings which caused many Intel issues to begin with and killed my 13900K, forcing me to downgrade to a Core i7.
