Mounting a peerless assassin 120 to a ROG STRIX Z790-H

Hey all,

Building a new machine,  and I'm finding that the VRM heatsink cover on the  ROG Strix Z790-H is interfering. Right now, I turned the PA 120 90 degrees (facing top of case) and it fits, albeit covering channel 1 of the RAM slots, which should be fine, as long as solely using channel 2 (slots 3 and 4) for my 2 32 GB sticks will work fine.

I've contemplated either shaving or removing a small section of the plastic VRM cover, but would the PA 120 SE function ok at 90 degrees (blowing out topside)? I have the fans oriented so that the air pulls from near the vid card, across the cpu and out the top of the case, which in turn has two 120 mm fans as exhaust (and 3 120mm fans for intake in front of the case).  there's also the obvious exhaust 120mm out the back.

Just worried that the current layout will keep things cool enough. Thoughts?

I'd suggest keeping it like it is for now and see how it goes. Temps probably won't be a lot different in any orientation as long as your case fans have a moderate airflow.

If you cut the plastic, you'll probably invalidate the warranty - just something to consider. Otherwise, can you return the cooler and get it changed for something that fits better?

Z690 Hero, 12900K, BIOS 3501, MEI 2406.5.5.0, ME Firmware 16.1.30.2361, 7000X Case, RM1000x PSU, ASUS TUF OC 3090TI, 2 x 16GB Corsair RAM @ 5200MHz, Windows 11 Pro 23H2, Corsair H150i Elite AIO, 4x Corsair RGB fans, 3x M.2 NVME drives, 2x SATA SSDs, 2x SATA HDs.
