Maximus Z790 dark hero with i9 14900K crashes

Phunction
Level 9

I thought the bios update with the default intel cpu settings would fix my BSOD's but I was wrong.

I am not using AI overclocking yet, latest bios installed with recommended intel settings.

I get UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION

The event logs show nothing, just an error about the system was shutdown improperly.

I mostly use it for productivity, running vmware workstation. It was flawless on my AMD system.

The weird part, it only seems to crash when I am not at my system.

I am really hoping someone has some ideas on what to try. I am pretty sure it is related to the i9 issues, I can try getting a warranty replacement, but intel still hasn't figured what is wrong with these cpu's.

HI @Phunction

Please try the following:

1. Update to beta 1402

2. Leave at Optimised Defaults. Ensure Intel Default > Performance is set

3. Do not enable XMP. Leave AI Tuner in Auto.

Retest.

Please note this BIOS updates the CPU microcode to 0x125 to address ETVB behaviour
