I'm trying to transition from an Rampage VI Extreme Encore to a Z690 Hero, but I'm confused on how many lanes my 3.0 SSD's will use.
I pretty much had my RVIEE maxed out with 8 total SSD's - 3 in a RAID 0 Storage Array. I had 3 SSD's on the RVIEE Motherboad, 1 SSD on a Watercooled x4 Card (for my OS) and 4 SSD's on a ASUS Hyper M.2 V2 Card (Gen 3). Graphics Card is a 3080ti.
Due to an error while trying to upgrade my i9-7920x to a i9-10920x with a new waterblock, I damaged a socket pin and caused a catastrophic failure.......ONE EFFEN PIN.
So I got a 12900KF and a ASUS Z690 HERO. I also got a 980 Pro for my OS.
My question is can I get more than 5 SSD's if I get a GEN 4 Hyper M.2 Card? Will my x4 WC M.2 Adaptor work at 4.0?
If all but one of my SSD's are Gen 3, can I configure this MB in a way to get most of my SSD's back up. If I use the Watercooled x4 Card for my 980 Pro to run my OS, what am I left with?

hI,
The Asus Z690 Hero comes with Hyper M.2 card with 2 M.2 slots. You can install it on PCIEX16(G5)_2 and get PCI 5.0 x4 / PCI 4.0 x4.
