Maximus Z690 Hero + Core i9 13900K: cannot POST with iGPU enabled.

Hello,
I've just bought an Intel Core i9 13900K, paired with my Asus Maximus Z690 Hero (latest BIOS updated, of course).
When I enable iGPU and reboot the system, the motherboard won't POST and it remains stuck with a black screen and the error code 7F.

Now, 7F is "No video output".

The monitor is connected to a Zotac RTX 4090 Amp Extreme AIRO graphic card.

On my Z590 board, the Intel Video is disabled as soon as you plug in a discreet video card. I assume yours is the same way, so they are not meant to run together.
Maximus Z790 Hero,
Intel i9-13900k
Intel BE200

iGPU and PCIe GPU run perfectly together, I use this constellation without any issues. There's even an option "iGPU Multi-Monitor support" which enables both GPUs at the same time.

For the issue of the OP = did you try to run the ME firmware update already?

They're meant to run together. The iGPU is the preferred way to do video encoding through Intel Quick Sync. It's fast as hell, faster than my RTX 4090 when doing video encode / transcode. In fact, I was using it perfectly fine with my previous Intel Core i9 12900K using the same board. The problem only happens with this new 13900K.

Hello MovedPermanently, thanks for the answer. Yes, I'm updated. I'm running ME Firmware version 16.1.25.1885 which should be the latest available.

Hey darkcg 🙂 No, this is in fact an old version. The latest is .2020, which you can find here:

I don't know if an old ME can also cause issues like yours, but it's at least worth a try.

Hey there. It's been some time now...

Is this issue sorted? Did upgrading the Me work?

I've also got the Z690 Maximus Hero & I want to upgrade the cpu to the 13900k. Hope I don't have any issues.

I also have 2x32gb g.skill ddr5 5600mhz. It could only run at default 4000mhz with a 12900 cpu. I'm hoping with the 13900k spec'd to run at 5600, that I'll get that speed. What ram do you have darkcg?
MB: Asus Z690 Maximus hero
RAM: 2x32gb g.skill Trident Z 5600mhz ddr5
NVME: 2x Samsung nmve 1tb 980 pro
HYPERCARD: 2x Crucial P3 4TB nvme
CPU: i9-13900k
GPU: Gigabyte 3080 Ti Eagle OC
COOLER: Gigabyte waterforce 360
CASE: CM TD500 mesh
PSU: Corsair HX1000

Hello,
I just want to make you know that updating the MEI firmware to the latest version fixed the issue.
Now I can use my iGPU and Core i9 13900K without issues (and with great results, I would add!)
Thanks.

Hello Saadiq, yes, updating the MEI firmware fixed the issues with the iGPU. Now the i9 13900K works at its fullest.
If you use the CPU for work other than gaming (video editing, rendering, etc.) go for the 13900K. It's a great upgrade, incredibly powerful CPU.

I have 64GB 5.200Mhz (4x16GB) Corsair Dominator Platinum set to 4.8Ghz. Be aware that using 4 DIMMS with DDR5 is problematic, don't go with crazy frequencies (mine is 5.2Ghz kit set to 4.8Ghz and I'm lucky). So don't spend money on the fastest kit if you need lot of RAM, you won't use them at their maximum speed.

Thank you. I don't expect to get 5600mhz, but if I could get one kit to work at that speed, I'll sell the other kit. If I get both kits to something closer to 5600mhz, I'll keep them all.

5600Mhz is unlikely. Please take in mind my kit is 5.200Mhz and the mobo can maintain 4 modules with extreme stability only at 4.800Mhz.
All depends by the memory chip manufacturers.
