'ITE USB Connector Client Device' Driver Issue

vortex1
Level 10

Gaming PC,  Z790-E II motherboard.

I have checked my drivers situation with Driver Booster & CCleaner and some were out of date including the ITE USB Connector Client Device. I manually updated from v.1.3.8.17 to 1.3.8.18. This driver is located under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in Device Manager.

I did notice a message in CCleaner that there is an 'Issue detected' with this driver in either version. I think Driver Booster reported 1.3.8.17 as 'faulty', although it's not saying anything now with 1.3.8.18 installed - just CCleaner.

Not sure how to approach fixing this issue. Any ideas guys?

UPDATE:

I uninstalled the driver via Device Manager, and rebooted the PC to allow it to automatically re-install, but the issue is still being reported by CCleaner so that didn't work.

WHAT IS THIS DRIVER?:

"The ITE USB Connector Client Device is a type of USB device driver commonly associated with USB controllers or hubs, particularly from ITE Tech, a company known for manufacturing integrated circuits and peripheral device controllers. These drivers are typically required for devices that use ITE chipsets for managing USB connections or providing USB interfaces on a PC.

If your system is prompting for the "ITE USB Connector Client Device" driver, it usually means that Windows is attempting to connect to or recognize a USB device managed by an ITE chipset, but the proper driver is not installed."

WHAT HAS THIS DRIVER ERROR MEANT FOR ME?:

Personally, I have not had any issues at present when connecting any number of different USB devices to the either the PC's case ports at the front, or the motherboard ports at the rear. I would still like to fix this issue however as I don't like to see errors in the system.

UPDATE 2:

I have carried out some checks, and the information i received is that it could be a false positive in CCleaner for a few reasons. The fact is that there is no yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager and Properties states that "This device is working properly", so I can probably forget about this issue and move on. At worst it's a hardware fault, meaning I would probably need to "inspect the ITE USB Connector for any visible signs of damage, and if necessary, test it on another computer to rule out hardware-related issues". I'm not sure where this connector is on the motherboard, and I have no other PC unfortunately to carry out a test.

Hi

No, it's not a false positive of CCleaner. CCleaner's Driver Updater works absolutely correctly.

My device manager is showing the latest version 1.3.8.18 of the "ITE USB Connector Client Device" and CCleaner's Driver Updater isn't showing any misbehavior (take a look of my screenshots).

Therefore, it has to be something else on your system that isn't working properly. With regard to "Driver Booster", I cannot say anything of it cause I don't use it.

Thank you for clarifying that. I have no idea what the implications are of the driver error on my system, or how to fix it. I haven't experienced anything adverse for now.

Your problem could be linked to a buggy cypress PD firmware like the issue i had here:

https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/amd-600-series/rog-x670e-crosshair-hero-faulty-ucm-client-peripheral-d...

If it is the same problem you might have up to 10% cpu performance loss which is hard to notice in day to day usage unless using specific cpu benchmark tools.

Try to install (or reinstall again) the cypress pd firmware given on your motherboard download page ( https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1700/ROG_STRIX_Z790-E_GAMING_WIFI_II/PD_FW_Update_Tool_V110... ) to see if it fixes the issue.

Hi @N3utro, thanks for helping with this. I installed the prescribed PD firmware and rebooted - still showing an issue in CCleaner. I re-installed the latest ITE driver, and it's still showing an issue. CCleaner recommends to revert back a driver version - which I've previously tried, and the problem persists.
This is an interesting situation. Incidently, the PD Firmware produced a txt file report called LogResult.txt, and when opened it says 'PASS'. That is some encouraging news so far at least.

Not sure what to try next..?
