is it possible to OC memory on a Z790-V w i9-12900K - G.Skill DDR5 6000 - I made mistake see last po

I made a mistake - see last post.

I have done a lot of playing and most of the time it just fast blinks for 15-20 seconds, pauses, repeats 7 more times and then displays the POST screen where I press F1 and then press F5 to reset the settings. The only test that has worked is just setting DRAM to 4200. else it runs at 4000 per the i9-12900 limit.

Ideas?

Thanks!!! (see sig for system)

I made a mistake. When I put the sticks in I put them in slots 1 and 3. They were supposed to go in 2 and 4. Changed them to 2 and 4 and was immediately able to set DRAM Frequency to 6000 (rating of non QVL listed G Skill DDR5 memory). and it runs fine. Prime mobo is quite sufficient!

Never mind. I am eating crow. I ordered the ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-E WIFI II. I do have a confusion as to where to plug my vid card but I will ask that in another thread. Nite.

Hi @kris33

As the Z790-V isn't a ROG line product and is an entry-level board, you should stick to the motherboard QVL for the best possible chance of overclocking success. For more info on XMP and overclocking see here

The part number you've listed does not appear to be on the QVL.

Huge thanks for this and thanks for the link to the QVL list. Interestingly Microcenter sold me that as a bundle and it's not on QVL. I have a friend who's getting a Tuf , etc and I will see what success he has with OCing and I may just get new memory that's on the list and try it. This stocks at 4000 and I can run it at 4267 just by changing DRAM and nothing else. Thanks again! (Next time I will aim for a ROG!!!)

Yes, my mistake for not assuming you'd read the manual. Your mistake for not doing the fundamentals 😂 👍
