How to know when to RMA?

I have a z790 Hero with a 14900k

I was getting random games failing to load and random crashes so I update the bios to latest 2503.
After the update, I'm only able to boot with multipliers below 53x, the default 57x will produce blue screen after  blue screen. This system has always run with default factory config from asus and intel, no OC.

How do I know I should rma my chip?

You can download the Intel CPU testing software, "Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool x64" - see if that passes, but suspect that you have unstable RAM, run some memory tests as well.

Z690 Hero, 12900K, BIOS 3701, MEI 2407.6.1.0, ME Firmware 16.1.32.2473, 7000X Case, RM1000x PSU, ASUS TUF OC 3090TI, 2 x 16GB Corsair RAM @ 5200MHz, Windows 11 Pro 23H2, Corsair H150i Elite AIO, 4x Corsair RGB fans, 3x M.2 NVME drives, 2x SATA SSDs, 2x SATA HDs.

thanks for the tip, amazon has started the return process already.

MemTest86 finds no problem in normal or stress test. I get a lot of issues running cinebench with thermal throttling and random bsods.

Hey xymor!  I was wondering did you contact the amazon seller for the RMA? or simply refunded?
