Hero Z690 Intel ME / Management Engine Question

essential
Level 8

When looking at the list of Drivers on the Z690 Hero support page, I had a question about the Intel Management Engine listings.

Intel Management Engine Interface V2251.4.2.0(SW 2306.4.10.0) For Windows 10/11 64-bit (2023/05/11)

&

Intel ME V2229.3.2.0 for Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 64-bit (2022/09/19)

Do I need both of these, and if so which do I install first, the ME or the Engine Interface?

Thanks.

Both of those are the MEI drivers, so just install the latest one. The naming consistency is not great. Then you can update the ME Firmware on the support page.

Even better, grab the latest MEI drivers and ME firmware from MoKiChU's drivers thread here:

https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/hardware-build-advice/index-all-my-firmware-drivers-software-threads/m...

You'll find that he always offers the latest drivers, more recent than the support pages. I'm using 2306.4.3.0 and 16.1.27.2076 with BIOS 2305 and I'm having no issues at all. Recommend you avoid 2305 if you don't have it already. It works for me, but I have slower RAM. If you have faster RAM, say over 6,000,  it could cause stability issues. Best to wait for the next BIOS when it's released. 2305 is locked and if you have issues you can't go back.

Z690 Hero, 12900K, BIOS 4001, MEI 2433.6.3.0, ME Firmware 16.1.35.2557, 7000X Case, RM1000x PSU, ASUS TUF OC 3090TI, 2 x 16GB Corsair RAM @ 5200MHz, Windows 11 Pro 23H2, Corsair H150i Elite AIO, 4x Corsair RGB fans, 3x M.2 NVME drives, 2x SATA SSDs, 2x SATA HDs.

Thanks, that makes sense.  I am actually on 2305 already.  I don't remember what version I was on prior but I was getting Kernel Power 41 Critical Error's every few days before but I have been stable since 2305.  I have Corsair Dominator 5600.

Nice, you should be fine then 😀
