HELP: Strix B760-I throwing memtest86 errors immediately

Nanoo777
Level 8

New build: Asus ROG Strix B760-I with Intel i5-14500 and 2x32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-5200 RAM (CMK64GX5M2B5200C40)

This is the first Intel builds I've done in over a decade. Machine boots to BIOS without issue. I've loaded the optimized settings, saved, rebooted and then went into memtest86.  Immediately, errors reported on the first pass.

Went back into BIOS and enabled XMP (showed correct specs at first glance), went into AI Tweaker and enabled XMP I, saved, rebooted, launched memtest86 again and same issue.

What should be my next step to troubleshooting: assuming trying RAM stick in slot 1 and then repeating to see if it's any better.

Looking for any help here because it's going to be a home server and I want to ensure its 100% stable.  Thanks in advance!

Hi @Nanoo777

From what you've said and give the low frequency bin of the memory module, I would consider contacting the retailer for a replacement, yes.

Hi @Nanoo777

1. Update to UEFI 1805

2. Try XMP II

3. If using a CPU contact frame, remove and refit the stock socket retention mechanism

4. Ensure the cooler mount is not over-torqued

Thank you for the prompt response.

1. Was one revision behind.  Updated to 1805 as requested.

2. Tried XMP II

3. Not using a contact frame so n/a

4. Using a Noctua NH-D9L so can't over-torque with the springs

No change in memtest86 so my next step was to pull the 2nd DIMM out and test with a single stick. Left settings as is and failed immediately.  Pulled that stick out and put it aside. Tried the second stick - no errors in 2 minutes.  Tried putting the questionable stick into slot B and it didn't error out immediately but a few seconds into testing.  My deduction is a bad stick of RAM. Would this be a safe bet?
