i have an asus rog  maximus z790 hero mother board

an intel i-9 14900k

and a samsung 9100 pro m.2 ssd 5th gen ssd. 

so here we go i am getting gen 4 speeds i can't get the drive to do the gen 5 speeds. right now it's in the m.2 slot under the cpu. wich says it's a gen five slot. iv'e seen that slot is a gen 5 and a gen 4 slot.

Check in the bios, Advanced tab, System Agent Configuration, PCI Express Configuration, that the M.2_1 Link Speed is set to Gen 5.

I'm using a Gen 4 ssd.

thanks man i set the speeds to gen 5 but nothing happened. wich is why i am wondering if i will need the hyper card plugged into a pcie slot??? but i am in gen 5 mode and still getting gen 4 speeds.

Yes, checking the Tech Specs and manual, it shows you can only get Gen 5 speeds with the Hyper Card.

According to the manual, you'd install your ssd in the Hyper M.2_1 slot, then install the Hyper Card in the PCIEX16(G5)_2 slot.

Hey nate 

after doing what you suggested i put the drive into the hyper card and put it into the pcie slot right under the GPU and it's working!!!!

Ok one more question. If i install a second gen 5 m.2 on the hyper card in the m.2 - 2 slot will i need to make changes in the bios or will i be good to go?
