G.Skill 8400MHz Royal Issue

Hi everyone

I recently purchased a kit of F5-8400J4052G24GX2-TR5G, 8400MHz RAM Speed, CAS 40-52-52-135 Timings, 1.40v VDIMM.

I am using this with a Z790 ASUS Apex Encore board which is listed in the QVL for this kit along with a 14900KS CPU with a MC SP-rating of 84.

However, I cannot get this kit stable at all using the XMP kit in XMP I or XMP II. Games crash and overall stability is not there. Memtest86 fails with multiple errors.

Are there any specific changes to voltages/settings you guys would recommend to try or do I have a faulty kit?

Thanks!

I've heard some reports that sometimes the thermalright or grizzly bear CPU contact frame can cause issues with memory speeds. Could this be it? I'm on the thermalright bracket so not sure if it's just a grizzly bear issue.

Absolutely can, as it's possible to over-torque and bend the CPU or motherboard substrate which will impact signal integrity. There's been quite a few cases come across the forum where users are suffering from misadventures such as this.

Try reinstalling the stock retention mechanism, or make sure the correct torque is used for the contact frame.
