I have a z690 d4 plus wifi

intel 12600k

latest bios 2305

its always done this

16gb ram and is on the accepting list of bios ram modules

I have to say this board or brand is atrocious I installed armoury crate and AI suite thinking no big deal could be pointless but no harm.

I install and the Asusfan service is crashing my computer constantly everytime  run my computer froze i see in the event viewer it said "Asusfan service tryed to run"😂 then "hardware failure" on the same time exact same time!

so i uninstall everything from asus and disable the fan service thought it be fixed and was a huge improvement but still kept freezing every 30 minutes sometime it was a few hours sometime it was 10 minutes.

Event viewer says Hardware failure

never once crashed playing games only idle or browsing obviosuly low usage drops to low voltage or watts?.

Now for the bit thats important even tho asus should really fix their software unbelievable making software freeze ur computer

now this might help other with issues

i disable c state its all fixed. no more freeze on idle why is this?

everything is stock in bios

xmp disabled

is this a cpu problem will an RMA fix it?

does n e 1 know the issue?

im stunned asus released a bios version and cannot do basic tasks like browsing without a freeze and power off and on is required!

ive had this pc for a year and only just trying to fix it now. i only play games mostly and doesnt crash

im probably getting an extra 5 watts cpu maybe less with c state disabled and i see the watts ramp up when c state enabled so i dont know if the average is alot less maybe 3 - 6 watts? dont mind the extra watts 3 - 6 watts for 30 mins 😂

do n e pros know what to do?

will this affect my cpu ? if it cant handle c state enabled is it faulty?

i really dont want to RMA it (waste of time) if it works as it should

im typing this on my PC now and no crash so far wooho. it used to crash alot when im typing on forums

basically the problem is when C state disabled my computer doesnt freeze when browsing or idle

thank u very much

ok i have now updated the bios to 2304 with c state enabled hopefully they seen this thread and fixed it  hopefully a reply would be nice

So is it fixed now? I've had freezing issues before with a faulty USB device. Try unplugging as much as you can and swap over the keyboard and mouse as well if you have spares. It might also be a good idea to run some memory tests just to eliminate RAM stability as a potential cause.

Z690 Hero, BIOS 3401, MEI 2406.5.5.0, ME Firmware 16.1.30.2361, 7000X Case, RM1000x PSU, i9 12900K, ASUS TUF OC 3090TI, 2 x 16GB Corsair RAM @ 5200MHz, Windows 11 Pro 23H2, Corsair H150i Elite AIO, 4x Corsair RGB fans, 3x M.2 NVME drives, 2x SATA SSDs, 2x SATA HDs.

I have a mouse and keyboard connected. C state disabled and seems to fix it.

Run windows memtest twice and memtest!

Still testing new bios only been 2 hrs no freeze yet

I have been having the exact same issue over the last ~6+ months on the following hardware:

Motherboard: ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4
CPU: Intel Core i9 13900K (previous CPU was an Intel Core i9 12900K with no issues)
BIOS: 2403 (2023/6/29) [also crashing on previous BIOS revisions: 2305, 2204, 2004]

I have also undertaken similar troubleshooting steps including the following:
a) CPU - reseating the CPU and cooler (Noctua NH-D15)
b) RAM - trialing 2 different sets of certified Corsair Memory kits (DDR4 3200 32GB and DDR4 3600 32GB), trialing different BIOS settings - Auto, XMP1, XMP2; memory tests - Normal, no errors
c) SSD - Samsung 980 Pro - placing in the different NVMe slots
d) GPU - trialing different nVidia and AMD GPUs (e.g., Titan RTX, etc.)
e) Reinstalling Windows 11 (and setting Power Plan settings to 'Ultimate Performance')
f) The only USB device I have plugged-in is a single Bluetooth Dongle for my Logitech Keys keyboard and MX Master 3 mouse

My issues are as follows:
a) Random freeze while webbrowsing (using latest Chrome 114, Edge 114) - not predictable
b) Random freeze while using applications including: Microsoft Word 365, Excel, PowerPoint
c) Random freeze while/during screensaver
d) Random freeze on Windows 11 lockscreen

I ran into this thread on 2023/07/02 and noted the possible solution of disabling C-state. I have attempted the following:
a) Disable C-state - no crashes (yet) in above scenarios, however, CPU multiplyer is locked at x55 for the P-cores with no boost to x58 and similarly for the E-cores. Core voltage is locked to 1.43V (monitored via CPU-Z)
b) Enable C-state - selected CPU default, and enabled Enhanced C-State -> still crashing
c) Enable C-state - selected CPU default, and disabled Enhanced C-State -> still crashing

I would very much prefer to not disable C-states.

Any thoughts, recommendations and/or additional troubleshooting ideas would be much appreciated.

bro its c state disable it people at asus to lazy to fix it

Any other ideas or any other trials of the C-state options in the BIOS menu that you may have found effective at addressing this problem?

This seems like too big of an issue with fairly common hardware to be occurring.

I have disabled c state and over night no crash.

Its weird how it doesn't crash on games

I was listening to music and it froze. I restarted my comp super pissed then froze again. I have disabled c state no freeze yet 7 hrs idle I think I may rma my cpu.
