Hello pcandmac,

It's not necessary to update the bios unless you're having  issues, but it won't hurt to update if you want to. It's a good idea to update the Intel Me driver when updating the bios.

In green it says you're not vunlerable, so this all looks good to me.

With your 12th Gen cpu, one thing I'd do is update to windows 11 for better utilization of the P-Cores and E-Cores.

Windows 11 is free. Download it from the Microsoft download page onto a 16GB usb flash drive, you don't need a key as it links to your windows 10 account.

Hi I have a new build PC using a Z690-A Gaming D4. I need to flash my BIOS to support the 13600k. At the moment I am intending to use BIOS 2204 as I believe this appears to be most stable.

I just wanted to confirm which Intel MEI Driver and ME Firmware I need to pair this with. My understanding is versions as follows:

  • Intel MEI Driver Version 2229.3.2.0
  • Intel ME Firmware Version 16.1.25.2020

Please can you confirm my understanding is correct?

Thanks!

ME firmware is I think causing an issue on Z790 Extreme with bios 1102. In memtest5 extreme config my ram passes test with bios 0904 and 1102 using ME 16.1.25.2124 but on my second bios switch which uses ME 16.1.27.2176 and bios 1102 it fails memtest5. Seems I can’t downgrade the ME on that other bios either so thankfully my board has dual bios.

Never mind its just a bad issue with ASUS bios. Issue is fixed now and i can only get bios 1103 for the Z790 Extreme to work if I use ME firmware 2176 despite Asus saying to stick to 2124. If I use 2124 and their newest bios is make the new 48GB Gskill ram kits fail memtest.

Hi,

Before trying to update your Intel ME firmware, you must install/update your Intel MEI drivers first :

[DRIVERS] Intel Chipset/MEI/VMD (6xx/7xx)

- Intel MEI Drivers (Drivers Only)

Hi,

You're welcome 😉

@ Everyone (Motherboards with Intel H610/B660/H670/Z690/B760/H770/Z790 chipset owners) : Know that if you plan to switch to the Raptor Lake Refresh CPU (14th Gen CPU) this fall 2023, the Intel ME Consumer Firmware v16.1.27.2176 or newer must be installed before.

That was the first thing I tried actually, but the issue persists. The only way I was able to update my ME firmware was by using WinPE and running it in there. Thanks for the suggestion anyways

hi, Error 20: Cannot locate ME device(if use this files). ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO support page show only two versions of MEUpdateTool 16.1.25.2124 and 16.1.25.2020
