Is it technically safe to use 16.1.25.2091 MEI Firmware with the official asus MEI driver package (Intel Management Engine Interface V2240.3.4.0(SW 2242.3.34.0)) or should we definitely use your MEI drivers? Thanks for all the awesome work you do!!

Hi,

It is more optimal to update to the last Intel MEI drivers before trying to update to the last Intel ME firmware :

[DRIVERS] Intel Chipset/MEI/VMD (6xx/7xx)

- Intel MEI Drivers (Drivers Only)

Hi,

I have some purely knowledge questions that it's okay if you don't feel like answering but I was curious about.

1.) Is it okay to install intel ME firmware while in windows safe mode?

2.) When running your ME firmware install and it goes to reboot, is it safe to immediately go to the bios and update the bios or should the user let the computer boot to windows first?

3) Say for example that your ME firmware got malware/virus/infected, would this also spread to the bios itself or could the user just re-apply the firmware update and reflash bios to be safe? and vice-versa if your bios was infected could it spread to the mei firmware before you had a chance to reflash and re-apply firmware. I guess what I'm asking is would it be impossible to fully remove the malware if either your ME firmware or bios got infected or would reflashing both cover it?

Hi,

1) In order for your Intel MEI Drivers to fully communicate with your Intel ME Firmware, I do not advise you to be in Safe Mode and its limitations.

2) I do not advise you to disturb the first reboot right after flashing your Intel ME Firmware.

3) This cannot happen one way or the other, the Intel ME firmwares and sub firmwares are signed by Intel and compiled by an Intel tool. When flashing your Intel ME Firmware, the Intel flashing tool performs some checks before flashing the Intel ME Firmware : It check the integrity of the Intel ME Firmware of the system to be flashed, it check the integrity of the Intel ME Firmware to be flashed and it check if the Intel ME Firmware type to be flashed matches Intel ME Firmware type of the system on which it will be flashed.

Ok cool since your ME firmware release is just intels it still does those integrity checks?

I just updated to ME 16.1.25.2091. When the PC restarted, I got a near instant wi-fi connection to my router and the CPU seems to be running as low as 15-20W when idling in Windows. It didn't drop much below 25W before and was nearer 30W most of the time. Would be interested to know if other see the same? My PCH temp is no different. I don't think I'm imagining this, so very pleased so far! Good job Intel and MoKiChU 🙂

I wasn't even aware that ME Firmware could have this sort of influence on the system. That's why I'm still wondering if it's just coincidence.
