CPU Fan Detection Error during BIOS Update?

Gessler

I'm on a STRIX Z790-E Gaming WiFi II with a Corsair iCUE LINK H150i AIO cooling my 14700K.

About once in every 3-4 boots, I get a CPU Fan Speed Detection error on the AMI splashscreen. Pressing F1 to go to setup shows the pump at the expected ~2500rpm always so there's nothing wrong with it (tach cable coming from LINK Hub connected to CPU_FAN header).

I've seen that this is quite a common problem and a lot of people simply set the Fan Detection to Ignore because of that. But being an owner of a 14th gen CPU I'm planning on updating to the 0x129 BIOS and just wondered what would happen if the error is thrown up during one of the restarts during the update process?

Even if I set it to Ignore now, it'll probably forget the setting when it flashes the BIOS, so what happens if it gets a CPU Fan speed error during the update? Am I risking BIOS file corruption or I need not worry?

Hello Gessler

You don't need to worry, you shouldn't get the cpu fan error during the bios update. You should only get the cpu fan error after the bios update has completed.

You could check the cpu fan cable to be sure there's not a loose connection.

If you're using iCUE to control your fans, you can set the cpu fan speed in the bios to ignore. I personally use a fan controller and set the cpu fan speed in the bios to ignore.

When you update the bios, it resets the bios to defaults, so the cpu fan speed will be enabled/monitored.
