Boot time is much slower after 1663 Bios update on TUF B760-PLUS Wifi DDR5

I have ASUS TUF GAMING B760-PLUS WIFI and i5 13600K, RAM Kingston Fury KF560C40BBK2-32
32GB (16GB 2G x 64-Bit x 2 pcs.) DDR5-6000 CL40 288-Pin DIMM Kit.

I was away abroad for about 4 months when I read the news about intel issues. So my PC was unused and bios was left untouched until I came back home about 2 weeks ago. When I first started it, boots fine like normal less than 10 seconds to Windows Login screen.

Then updated the 1663 bios from ASUS website for my mobo model. Boot time is FAR MUCH slower with the boot Q-LED lit up until the press F2 screen shows up. Even entering BIOS took longer where usually took 1-2 seconds.

I never had instability/crashing/overheating issues before (have this rig about nearly a year now). I do not overclock the CPU either, only use XMP.

So I think it's the BIOS update that causes the slow boot (I am not a tech-savy). Desktop is running okay, just that slow boot time. No overheating, no temp spikes that I can see.

HI @Sten_ have you tried to go back to the BIOS version you were using before this upgrade? Using EZ Update Tool from the BIOS, you can load a previous version of the BIOS like you loaded 1663 version. When going back to an older version of the BIOS, it is recommended to CLEAR CMOS and press F5 to load the defaults after the older version is installed. Once you are stable on the older version with defaults, you can adjust your BIOS settings to the ones you were using before.

I hope this helps you get back to a better working state. A newer BIOS is about to be released soon so you can also wait and just update to this newer BIOS once it comes out for your specific board. Good luck!

Hiya, thanks for the respond. I was thinking of rolling back to the previous BIOS, but I am a reluctant. I am always nervous everytime I am doing BIOS update just in case it bricked my mobo or there's power interruptions, so I don't tend to update unless there're crucial updates. My system is stable with the 1663 BIOS, just that slow BIOS load. So I may wait for the new stable BIOS. Currently still on warranty as I just got this mobo about a year ago, but not sure if the mobo is damaged from BIOS update is covered.

Thank you for the reply by the way, appreciated it 🙂

Hi @Sten_ I totally understand the fear specially if you live in the part of world where power supply is not stable and you also don't have a battery backup connected to your PC.

If you search here you will find couple of recent posts about slow bootup time. Once such post is https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-motherboards/bios-3802-problems/m-p/1046384 while it is for a different board and different BIOS version, I am personally under the impression that the most recent BIOS with Microcode 0x129 is having this boot slow down for cheaper and/or older CPUs like yours. I am also under the impression that most of Intel's plus ASUS's testing is focused on the i9-13900K, i9-13900KS, i9-14900K, i9-14900KS as the main focus. While other CPUs are listed as supported no one really knows how much testing effort and time they are getting compared to these top most SKUs.

This is why I suggested that you can try an older version to see if your problem goes away. Even 1 version down may solve your issue as per this post where some people have seen success downgrading to older version.
