Bluetooth headset not working/connecting

Hello,

I just built a new pc with the z690 mobo. Did a clean install of win10. Updated all drivers, including bluetooth.

I have a bose qc35 which connects to everything perfectly fine. Connected to my previous pc with no issues either. Now that Im on the new pc, the headset struggles to be found or connect to windows.

Windows sometimes finds it as a non audio device. If it does find it as an audio headset device, it doesnt connect. Like it says it paired and connected, but then doesnt work when I select it as the main audio device. Nothing happens. Sometimes it gets removed completely and I have to go through the pairing process again.

Any ideas or tips I can try out?

this is so unfortunate.

i didnt get on the phone with them as i have no time to waste like that. i utilized their online chat which made things easier.

but anyways, its been 16 days that ive been without a computer (i have to borrow my bros laptop to do things) they literally have no clue what theyre doing. this is the last asus product i will ever buy. i wouldve easily returned the mobo if it was within the return period.

as of right now they are trying to "locate" the same mobo or something comparable because lo and behold, they realized its a hardware issue that cant be fixed. i cant even get them to just send it back to me, so i can sell it at a loss and get something else.

they have literally spent the last 7 days trying to find a mobo to send me. HOW IN THE **** DO YOU NOT JUST HAVE ANY SPARE PARTS AVAILABLE for this type of situation? i can find the same mobo from two other retailers right now. but chances are those are probably faulty mobos as well.

soooo asus finally got back to me and said they dont have my model in stock and not sure when they will. instead they offered to replace it with the ROG STRIX Z690-G GAMING WIFI. without hesitation, i said yes. i need my computer back. so immediately said yes.

upon reading more about the new mobo....looks like it only takes ddr5 ram. and its a micro atx. i already bought specific ddr4 ram and its way past the return date. so i had to drop more money so that i could buy the correct ram. the micro atx part didnt bother me too much, but its micro, so i dont have room to add any pcie parts in the future. my gpu takes up practically everything, and it also looked funny seeing this one part tower over everything else.

they eventually sent me the new mobo. i received it on feb 16. upon installing everything....guess what happened? the new mobo's bluetooth didnt work either. i didnt want to go through another rma. at that point i officially gave up on asus and bought an msi motherboard. turns out the msi mobo has issues with bt as well. but not as bad. the pc found the bt device immediately, so i thought that was a good sign. upon playing music, i noticed immediately, everything is very choppy, as if the device is 20 feet away. im not going through another rma process at all.

looks like im not allowed to enjoy bluetooth headsets on my pc anymore. maybe one day ill buy a bluetooth adapter and just deal with that. bluetooth adapters arent sold by themselves, its a wifi adapter/bt combo. so yeah. im looking forward to throwing in a part thats only gonna be used for bt. the usb bt adapters are trash and last only a few months at a time.

Honestly, what are the odds that you get 3 different mobos from 2 manufacturers and all of them have "broken" bluetooth? I would guess next to none.
Since you dont mention it anywhere, do you have your wifi antenna connected?

Yeah I know. I thought the same exact thing.

I knew it wouldnt be the headset Bc it works on every other device. I built my dad a new pc and used a gigabyte mobo. Works perfectly fine on that. Ive had multiple Mac books from work, headset works perfectly fine there. Connected the headset to different phones, works fine.

However, I dont have the wifi antenna connected Bc Im using Ethernet. So now that you mention, I will try this later today to confirm. Im curious to know why this might make a difference. Bc why would bt work contingent upon the wifi antenna if some people dont use wifi.

soooooo i think this worked. i havent had any issues yet and its been going for an hour.

someone else mentioned this, like seriously, how come nobody in customer support mentioned this? also, in neither of the manuals for asus and msi, it doesnt say anything about the antenna must be connected for BT to work.

also, THANK YOU for the suggestion as i never wouldve thought the wifi antenna is needed to connect BT

Wifi and BT share antenna and is pretty much required.
How is that not the first thing customer support checks when someone has trouble with their BT? Instead of RMA or compatibility nonsense...

had no idea that the antenna is needed for both. just assumed it was for wifi only.

Knowing how BT works on laptop and phones, I also would not have thought a WIFI antenna is REQUIRED for Bluetooth to work
Dont think it is in the manual as well, but will double check

Can confirm that you have to connect the Wifi antenna, after that bluetooth works great and has a really good range.
