BIOS 2802 Comments

Just noticed that this new BIOS has just been released. I'll probably try it over the next few days and provide some comments here...

Always good to know what others think.

Hi. Why can't you install an older BIOS?
Have you tried contacting Asus support to see if there is any new configuration that could resolve this issue?

Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Dark Hero Motherboard - Intel i9-13900K - Asus Thor 1200p - Kingston Fury 128GB (4x 32GB) DDR5 4200MT/s (Trying to run 128GB at 5600MT/s) - 3x Firecuda 530 NVMe SSD 1TB - WD Black SN850 NVMe SSD 2TB - ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 4080 - Windows 11 Pro x64

This bios added the support for14th gen.

I have send support an email about the issue. When I get an interesting reply I will post it here.

Any of you have issues with the PCIE_1 dropping to x8 after the update? My GPU is stuck at x8 and I can't figure out why. Haven't checked it in over a year so I'm not sure if it was 2802 or a previous version that messed it up, or if it's hardware related.

I've been on 2802 for a good while now, GPU still running at x16. No changes over previous BIOS affecting my setup - but some have issues while others do not. Hard to say if it might be BIOS related. Might be worth checking out MoKiChU's thread and making sure that all drivers and ME firmware are up to date. Otherwise, have you added any other PCIe devices or M.2 drives?

I’ll check out his thread when I get home. The ME firmware updated with the BIOS update and I confirmed that it’s current. No other PCIe devices. I have one NVME SSD in the M.2_2 slot. I took it out and the GPU is still stuck at x8.

Makes sense and yes, the ME firmware should be updated with the most recent BIOS versions now. If drivers don't help, then you can set the PCIe bus speed in BIOS. Worth checking there as well. If none of those ideas help, then sorry I'm not sure what's causing the drop to x8. The good news is that even on x8, the speed reduction will only be 5% at most, because GPU's don't fully utilise the x16 bandwidth anyway.

The bus speed is still at the 4.0 speed of 16GT/s. It’s just the lanes that are reduced from 16 to 8. I know 4.0 x8 is still plenty for the GPU, but I still want to know why it’s running at x8 instead of x16. There’s no BIOS setting to manually set it to x16. When you fork out $1200 for a top tier MB you want it to run correctly.
