Bios 1403 vs 1304

Just making some preliminary observations on the difference in these two bios versions. 1304 is much more stable with memory as best I can tell so far. I have a GSkill 5600 kit which runs great on XMP 2 on 1304, but I’m getting a lot of instability with the same settings on 1403. I know settings vary from bios versions similar to CPU samples, but even with tweaking my settings, I am having problems getting the same kit stable with 1403.

The other big issue I have noticed is the lack of CPU boost frequency under load. With 1304, my 12900k boosts to 5.5 on 3-4 cores in cinebench single core testing no problem. I am not seeing the same thing with 1403. CPU frequency with this bios in single core cinebench shows 5.3 on some cores. Occasionally hits 5.4, but never 5.5 like in 1304. Overall cinebench score is down to about 26,200 in the multi core test with 1403 compared to 28000+ with the prior version.

I’m still testing to confirm what I’m seeing so far. Trying to juggle work schedule and testing memory stability when possible. Anyone else noticed similar results?*

I found the same thing 1304 is more stable. I'm back to 1304 for now.

With my asus maximus z690 formula motherboard with bios 1003 my corsair dominator platinum ddr5 5600 mhz cl36 can be overclocked to 6133 mhz CL36 with 1.35v easily , i tested with the new 1403 bios and cant even run my ram @ 6000 mhz stable. i just reverted back to 1003 and everything is running fine with my ram @ 6133 mhz stable.

i can confirm that on my Z690 maximus extreme, also Wake up on lan with the 2.5gb nic is death on this bios also 1403, with 1303 its all fine

Better hope this isn't some Intel marketing gimmick connected to the release of the i9-12900KS that Intel boasts being worlds fastest because it can turbo boost to 5.5 and the older 12900 can't do that it says...
Wouldn't surprise me if they told all MB manufacturers to cap the older models at lower boost or something in time for the testings of this new one.
The real meaning of "Improve system performance for Intel Core i9-12900KS" in the notes? 🙂

1403 is indeed worse than 1304. What I don't get is what are they doing... Supposed to be fixed and improvements but yet the new versions seem to be heading in the wrong direction.

I don't seem to have any major issues but my auto overclock went down from 71% to 68% on my z690 Maximus Extreme with 12900K. Will run 1403 a little longer and see how it goes.

Same here. No issues whatsoever. But, auto overclock went down from 71% to 68%. I think they have modified the AI algorithm. I think the previous evaluation was overstated. Practically though, it seems nothing has changed. I still get occasionally 5.5 GHz with Turboboost.

my cinebench score went down when I installed 1403 and didn't go back up when I reinstalled 1304. Could it be the micro code that was in the 1403?
