Hey there, i'm trying to undervolt my 14900K with Asus Z790-E Gaming WiFi II MOBO, when i start Intel XTU, on advanced view it says my Watchdog does not work (False). So if i undervolt my CPU, then save and apply the settings for future restarts Watchdog need to be on working which is needed to on Settings tab. How can i fix this? Is there any manual way to do that? Thanks.

i'm having crashes about watchdog timeout, XPU tells me watchdog is not present. Wondering if you have discovered anything more about this?

No, still same.

Ok, so from what I found out there is an issue with the Watchdog driver not working properly on the i9-14900K. Check out 7:10 in this video and the comments - we are not the only ones! https://youtu.be/jP7nERdD-Gk?si=GR0EPZ3BXoU0aNlk

It's possible that your Intel CPU is running too hot, especially if you have a high end CPU like an i7 or an i9. These CPUs often run really hot and in some instances may be thermal throttling because of it. The good news is it's possible to tweak the CPU voltage (otherwise known as under volting)

According to official intel support apparently "there is a known issue with Asus motherboards" with the IccWdt driver.

At this point it's on Asus to fix whatever they broke,  even intel has no idea apparently.

I talked to the company who supplied me the machine, they have had to replace a couple of motherboards for "pro" users who didn't want to deal with these issues. They are already talking to Intel and ASUS they said, and said they will come back to me in a few days. If I get a solution I'll share it here 🙂

from this thread:

https://community.intel.com/t5/Processors/Intel-XTU-crashing-when-contacting-watchdog-driver/m-p/155...

"the Watchdog is not detected within the system on BIOS. This is ASUS known issue, not related to Intel XTU, so the next thing to do will be to get in contact directly with them for further technical assistance on this subject:"

Asus needs to respond for anything to move, Intel has pointed the finger at them.

Not an issue, behaviour is intentional.
ASUS uses the Watchdog timer on XMP to ensure system sustainability, hence it will limit IXTU from using WDT. If there's any room for manoeuvre on this I'll update the post.

Hi, Thanks for confirming the behavior.

Can you give us info on what BIOS options enforce the Asus WDT usage and thereby disable XTU's features?

Other manufacturers do not use the WDT or at the least allow for the user to disable the bios's usage to free it up for other uses.

This really should be in the docs for motherboards, even Intel did not know why their software broke.

It's currently CNY so won't get a response just yet. I can't comment on the behaviour on other vendor boards as haven't tried to use XTU.
