Asus z790 Gaming WiFi II flash back

So i have a new board which is Asus z790 Gaming WiFi II.

I have an Intel 14900k.

Without anything in the board apart from the 24pin atx plug. I have put the renamed bios file on the root of a fat32 formatted usb stick. Which was named using the rename tool it come with.

Put it into the bios named usb port and pressed the bios button for 3 seconds.

It flashes about 4 times or so then goes a solid green.

I've waited over 40 mins. Tried around 5 different sticks. Usb 2 and usb 3.

The bios won't take any of them.

I'm wanting to upgrade from the early bios due to the issues surrounding the 14900k and voltages. But I'm not able to get the flash back feature to work.

What am I doing wrong?

IMHO, you should just install CPU and connect monitor and use Asus EzFlash 3 (build in BIOS tool) to upgrade BIOS.

Your CPU won't get damaged after running 10 or 20 minutes with old microcode. And if you want to be extra careful you could always disable Turbo frequency in BIOS, save and reboot, till you upgrade BIOS and your CPU will run at 3.2 GHz or similar speed with lower voltage.

Btw, motherboard comes preflashed with some BIOS version, there is a sticker on motherboard saying which version it has.

What does it say on yours? It should somewhere around CPU socket.

Its 0404

This is initial BIOS release, meaning the first one publicly available. Nonetheless it supports your CPU since it is second revision of that motherboard (Mark II).
You should be able to boot your system and update BIOS via Asus EzFlash 3.
