Asus z790-e gaming WiFi G.Skill S5 192GB compatibility issues

The Asus ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi is a powerhouse motherboard designed for high-performance builds, but pairing it with G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 192GB (4x48GB) DDR5 RAM can sometimes lead to compatibility issues. While the Z790 chipset supports high-capacity memory, there are a few factors to consider:

  1. BIOS Version: Ensure your motherboard’s BIOS is updated to the latest version. Asus frequently releases updates to improve memory compatibility and stability.

  2. Memory QVL (Qualified Vendor List): Check the motherboard’s QVL to confirm if the specific G.Skill S5 192GB kit is officially supported. If it’s not listed, there’s a higher chance of instability.

  3. XMP/EXPO Profiles: Enabling XMP or EXPO for higher memory speeds can sometimes cause instability, especially with high-capacity kits. Manually adjusting timings and voltages in the BIOS might help.

  4. Memory Slots and Configuration: Using all four DIMM slots with high-capacity RAM can strain the memory controller. If you encounter issues, try using two sticks instead of four or reducing the frequency.

  5. Power Delivery and Cooling: High-capacity RAM kits can generate more heat. Ensure your system has adequate cooling and a reliable power supply to handle the load.

On a side note, while troubleshooting, I like to keep things relaxed by listening to music on Spotify Premium  (always downloaded officially—avoid risky Spotify Premium APKs for safety!). It’s a great way to stay focused during long build sessions.

If you’re still facing issues, consider reaching out to Asus Support or G.Skill’s Customer Service for tailored advice. Alternatively, you might want to test with a lower-capacity kit or a different brand to isolate the problem.

Asus don't publish this, but most z790 CPUs can't run high speed memory, with more than 2 memory sticks.
On standard setting you can get as much as 5600MHz, if you're lucky, but I think on forums dedicated to OC, you could get more help with how to OC your RAM to get more speed.

Here is from MSI,

4x DDR5, Maximum Memory Capacity 256GB
Memory Support 7200+(OC)/ 7000(OC)/ 6800(OC)/ 6600(OC)/ 6400(OC)/ 6200(OC)/ 6000(OC)/ 5800(OC)/ 5600(JEDEC)/ 5400(JEDEC)/ 5200(JEDEC)/ 5000(JEDEC)/ 4800(JEDEC) MHz
Max. overclocking frequency:
• 1DPC 1R Max speed up to 7200+ MHz
• 1DPC 2R Max speed up to 6600+ MHz
• 2DPC 1R Max speed up to 6400+ MHz
2DPC 2R Max speed up to 5600+ MHz <=== your kit.
