In my configuration
- Asus Z790-A Prime wifi (Bios 1663)
- intel i7-13700K
- Corsair 5600 CL36 (CMK32GX5M2B5600C36)
EZ tuning does not work correctly, in fast tuning mode it does not even set the memory to its XMP frequency of 5600 but to 4800, the extreme tuning mode instead crashes the system even after several restarts. AI OC does not seem to be present so on this card and in this configuration there is no tool for automatic overclocking.
I specify that by setting AI overclock tuner to XMP II, the RAM goes correctly to 5600 and the test with prime95 does not detect any problems.
Does this happen to anyone else? What can be done? Is it possible that a future bios update will correct the problem?

Hi @fmanni going over the rates Memory Frequency depends upon a lot of factors like your CPU's Memory Controller (basically silicon lottery), the quality of the motherboard (like buying boards meant for overclocking) and the headroom to go over the rated speed from the memory manufacturer.
Since you are getting the rated speed of 5600MT/s using XMP II, you may not be able to get anything more out of your build. Even if you somehow get slightly more memory speed, getting your build to stay stable at that speed will become a challenge.
I hope this information helps you out.

thanks @achugh for the reply, but my negative opinion is on how EZ tuning was implemented and tested: starting from default configurations (therefore without xmp) it cannot crash the system. Furthermore, when you exit and save the bios it doesn't write what it has changed so you can't even understand what it has changed to make it unstable. Using EZ tuning extreme the system never becomes stable even after numerous reboots. EZ stands for easy and it doesn't seem to do its job.
In any case with this CPU the OC is not necessary, I was just curious to see how much you can go up having taken a K but on this Bios and on this card there are no working automatic modes

Hello @fmanni
The Prime boards are not an ROG line therefore numerous OC features are not available, and the board is not primarily geared at overclockers. XMP II is the default DIMM profile and thus has more conservative memory sub-sets that might help with stability with certain CPU samples or entry-level boards.

thanks for the answer, but for me, who was a SW developer, if a feature is made available then it must work! In this situation EZ tuning on this Motherboard must be disabled, it must not be seen in the bios

Hello,
that's fine, however, we're not talking strictly about software when it pertains to running hardware out of specification. Overclocking has always been a process open to variance between parts.
For more information regarding memory OC please see the article here

Intel XTU adds a boost bin via TVB behaviour which is very conservative, it's not the same as EZ Tune and cooling may be a limiting factor.
Overclocking very much does depend on all components. XTU also has no bearing on XMP stability.
