ASUS ROG Z790 Maximus Hero - i9 14900K - Unstable - after 2402 even worse..

Hello Guys..

the internet is totally full with this issue, but i really dont know what i should do. Last xmas i buyed this pretty nice setup for me and since day one only problems and it getting worse and worse.. on the last bios update there was some fixes around which makes it better, but still not completly.. 

Here i was happy when intel mentioned they fixed the bug and asus dropped 2402, but after this its even worse.. 😞

Nearly every game which i want to start crash because out of memory or something like that (64gb DDR5 inside) .. 

I put my bios settings to default, but it doesnt help alot.. does somebody has a idea, what settings could i use with 2402 that my system is getting a bit more stable.. really thinking about to rip it out and buying an AMD..

Just some suggestions that you might want to consider:

Run with 2 x DDR5 RAM - Some motherboards (e.g., 690 series) have issues with running 4 sticks of DDR5 due to timing issues. May want to remove two sticks and try again.

Reduce or remove XMP for RAM - May want to run the RAM at default speed. For me, I am running 4 sticks of 5600 DDR5 at reduced speed of 5333 at XMP I (most stable for my case). 

Reseat your CPU cooler - In case the cooler came loose somehow. 

Check your power supply - Sometimes the quality of the power delivered by the PSU may cause issues (e.g., spikes in electricity when some high-power equipment have been turned on)

1. Clear CMOS

2. Remove CPU and cooler and inspect CPU pin-pad and socket for debris or damage

3. If using a contact frame, remove and reinstall the stock retention bracket.

4. Reapply TIM and reseat CPU and cooler while ensuring consistent mounting pressure.

5. Leave XMP disabled.

6. Set SVID Behaviour to Intel Fail Safe

7. Leave Intel Base Profile @ Performance.

Retest. If behaviour persists, contact Intel or etailer for RMA depending on your region.

Ja, das ist sehr traurig.

Ich habe auch ein ähnliches System mit 14900kf und Z790 Hero.

Nach den 3 oder 4 maligen BSOD war das ganze Windows irreparabel zerstört, so dass nur mit viel Aufwand noch ein paar Daten gerettet werden konnten. Und das war, bevor das ganze Problem mit Raptor Lake bekannt wurde.

Zum Glück habe ich Google Alerts zu diesem Thema erstellt und lese nun öfters, dass es zu schwerwiegenden Fehlern 2402 kommt und ich habe bis jetzt auch nicht aktualisiert und warte ebenfalls ab.

Ich laufe seit meinem schweren Absturz mit dem zerstörten Windows auf 5500GHz und PL1 und PL2 auf 250W und 400A und immer noch im BIOS 1801. Alles ohne Probleme seit Monaten.

Sicher, 5500 GHz sind weniger als angegeben, aber ich sehe beim Spielen keine Einbußen und warte jetzt, bis ich eine 100 % sichere Update-Option habe.

The BIOS 2402 would have to be withdrawn and a new one produced as quickly as possible.
So many people are posting on Reddit that there are problems with the 2402 or even worse.

Ich bin gespannt, ob es zu einer Entschädigung kommt.

I completely understand your frustration. I’ve had a similar experience with my setup. The issues started to severely impact my workflow and almost ruined my reputation with clients. Every BIOS update seemed to bring a new set of problems.

After the latest update, 2402, things got even worse for me too. Nearly every game or application I started would crash with out-of-memory errors, even though I have 64GB of DDR5 RAM and 48GB of video memory. Resetting the BIOS settings to default didn't help much either.

I was on the verge of ripping everything out and switching to a different motherboard brand. However, I found that BIOS version 2301 has been somewhat stable for me. While it's not perfect, it has made my system usable again.

If you haven't tried reverting to 2301, it might be worth a shot. At least, it’s been a temporary fix for me until a more stable BIOS update is released.

Ultimately, I decided to switch to MSI for a more stable and high-performing experience. If anyone else is considering a change, I recommend looking into alternative brands like MSI.

im very confused as to why you think switching to a different brand/motherboard will suddenly fix your issue while you could have a bad cpu.... you cant make claims like MSI having more stable or high performing experience if you didnt even switch and test yet.

lol I'll post results. I barrowed a friends board and put my cpu in it. cpu is fine. I'm also upgrading to the ks. These ASUS boards are not the same as they used to be. I still use my ws c422 everyday.

@Vynra dont be confused, its just make people pissed off that you buy a system for 6k and have nothing more thank problems.. i didnt talk about the mainboard brand, i talked about to exchange the CPU / Board.. so, no im not trolling..
Its also not fine from intel when you want to claim that you have perhaps a broken CPU, then they say.. "hey send us the CPU, we will check" .. thats nice.. but waiting 4 weeks till they check the CPU.. i dont know thats not acceptable for me.

what I'm saying is you could've just exchanged the CPU as it was probably not the motherboard that was the problem.... "out of video memory" is a cpu issue. if you exchanged both CPU and motherboard then you will never know where exactly the issue came from. so you saying MSI is better when for all you know it could be the exact same performance.... that comment you made just makes no sense to me as you have no clue what the issue was.

currently im in contact with intel about an RMA, but i got it a bit more stable with reducing the clock speed multi to 55x ... with the Intel XTU, that was the only change i did ..
