ASUS ROG Z790 Maximus Hero 1501>2002.

Hello, I have a 13900ks+4090 ROG strix, I'm super happy with 1501 BIOS (which I updated myself), but I've recently heard about the logofail exploit, and I think it's time again to upgrade the firmware, I'm a bit scared of bricking the motherboard so I will use the USB flashback tool, I'd love to have peer confirmation on the steps that are required, so far I've done this:

-Learn about Logofail and check the latest firmware on the ASUS site for my product.

-Download the firmware, rename it with the BIOSrenamer tool.

-Put the file on the root of my ROG USB flash drive.

I just need to turn off the PC, insert the USB on the BIOS named USB slot, press the BIOS button that kinda has like a recycle logo on it for 3 seconds, until the button itself starts blinking, at which point, I will let it update and I will not take the power off, and I will wait until everything stops blinking, effectively having updated my "Intel ME" and my BIOS firmware to the new publication.

yeah. you got it right but just dont touch anything until you see the "press f1 to go into bios" screen. also you dont need to do 2002 you can go to 1801 or 1904. 1801 was extremely solid. 1904 is solid as well. 2002 is kind of a mixed bag.

I don't know how to procure any BIOS other than 2002, they don't seem to appear on the asus site, also, the press F1 to go into bios is after the USB and everything has stopped flashing, I have removed the USB, and I have started the PC again right? maybe I can wait until the next solid publication on the 2000 branch, you make me doubt now.

click the red "click to see all downloads" button below the bios 2002 bios download. then older bios will pop up that you can download. yes you just start the pc again once everything stops flashing. then just wait till you see the splash screen. the RGB and intel ME will probably need to download so let it do its thing.

Nice! I'll check the differences between 1801 and 1904 and decide between the two, thanks for the heads up on 2002's stability, I really hate the system not being stable.

Do I need an ethernet connection for the ME and RGB or will it suffice with my already working WIfi?

none, it will get downloaded with the bios but the install runs seperate. so the biso will update first, then the intel ME then the RGB firmware. then yhou should see the splash screen.

I deleted 2002 from the USB and cut/pasted 1904 onto it, now I know I can follow the whole process without worries, I will upgrade the BIOS in like a week or 2, since I want to wait for work related reasons.

You can do the BIOS update from the Bios without flashback on the mainboard.
Copy the BIOS file to a USB stick, boot the PC into the BIOS and go to "EZ-Flash". There you select your USB stick and update the BIOS.

In BIOS version 2002 there is also a new microcode for the CPUs that fixes security gaps etc.

I switched from 1801 in 2002 and it's been working great and stable so far.

yea, problem with that is that it kinda created a double BIOS login last time, for whatever reason, I feel safer with the USB flashback tool method.
