ASUS ROG Strix Z790-F Gaming WiFi crushes with black screen and fans on max

Hi!

I’m experiencing random crashes in games and Blender—followed by a black screen and the fans ramping up to maximum. I’ve tried different GPUs and RAM, and reinstalled GPU drivers, but the issue persists. Interestingly, benchmarks like FurMark and AIDA stress tests run fine.

My specs:

  • ASUS ROG Strix Z790-F Gaming WiFi

  • Intel 14700K

  • Corsair DDR5 6000 RAM

  • RTX 5700 Ti

  • Samsung 980 EVO SSD

  • PSU Asus ROG 1000 w

I’ve seen that other users with the same motherboard have had similar issues, but there doesn’t seem to be a confirmed solution yet.

Does anyone have any ideas, or should I just send the motherboard in for warranty service?

Hi @coaxile
This may indicate a power delivery issue, or a mounting one.

Ensure the 12VHPWR connector is fully seated at both the GPU and PSU terminals.

If using the supplied 8-pin adapter, ensure these are correctly seated also.

If using a riser cable, connect the GPU directly to the PCIE port and retest behaviour.

Thanks. Checked, doesnt help. And if there was a power problem how would stress test last.

You  were right, thanks! One of the CPU power connectors was not fully seated)

No worries!
