Asus gaming z790 h wifi won’t boot with ddr 5 6800

I’ve tried everything I can think of to get this working. I have the two gskill 48gb ddr5 6800 dimm but mb only sees 4000. Xmp won’t boot and it sets the right timings. Cpu is i9 13900k….. Any help is appreciated.

Switched ram sticks into A2B2, used xmp2, set AI optimized from ezmode and booted up. 6800 🙂

You probably would need to lower the RAM clocks a little bit.

I'm not sure about Asus boards, but MSI provides such information,

The 4 x DDR5 with 7200+ is just marketing gimmick, not really possible with current gen processors and motherboards on most configurations.

Your gskill 48gb ddr5 6800 would be 1DPC 2R. Try to manually overclock RAM with 6000 as start point then increase with 200MHz.


Also make sure the BIOS version is at least 904.

Yes it is. I also tried the xmp tweaked. It's just a black screen on boot.

2x48gb at 6800 may need a reasonable IMC

Load XMP 2 and set memory frequency to 6000MT.

If the system completes POST, increase frequency ratio till encountering instability and report back.

Tuning of VCCSA (CPU) System Agent and MCVDD (Memory Controller Voltage) may be required, more likely so on higher frequency memory kits.

Xmp 2 won’t boot. Any recommendation on those other 2 values? Sorry I’ve never had to tune this much before. It’s nice to learn though. 

Hi, ultimately depends on the CPU.  Reduce the memory frequency till the system is able to POST successfully, then report back.

Typical values are between:

1.25v - 1.4v VCCSA 

1.2v - 1.6v MC VDD

Note that too high a value also hurt stability. Also ensure modules are in slots A2 and B2

I can boot at 4800. Cpu system agent voltage override is 1.3 and memory controller voltage is 1.4 

if I go up to 5000, it won’t boot.
