Has anyone updated their Asus Z790 board to BIOS 1661 issued last week experienced any issues with high temperatures? There are some adverse reports like this one:

and discussed. 😉
I use a Z790-F Gaming Wifi with an i7-13700K (see signature) with current UEFI 2402 + Microcode 0x125 and the following settings:
-Performance Preferences: "Intel Default Settings"
-Asus Multicore Enhancement: "Disabled - Force all Limits" (sets PL1 + PL2 to 253W)
-PL1 + PL2 = 253 W
-SVID-Behaviour=AUTO
-CPU Load-Line Calibration: "AUTO" (current CPU Load-Line-Calibration = Level 3)
-Sync ACDC Loadline with VRM Loadline: "enabled"
-unlimited ICCMAX: "Auto"
-CPU Core/Cache Current Limit Max.: "Auto" (current CPU Core/Cache Current Limit = 307A)
-IA CEP: "Auto" (IA Current Excursion Protection (CEP): enabled)
-SA CEP: "Auto" (IA Current Excursion Protection (CEP): enabled)
-IA TDC Current Limit: "Intel*s Default"
additionally activated by me:
-Ai Overclock Tuner (for RAM): "XMP" active (5600MHz)
The Asus Hardware forecast: SP 88 / cooler: 170 pts
Another stress test with CPU_Z (approx. 5 min.): CPU up to 71 degrees warm (monitored with HwInfo)
Cinebench R23: max. 77 degrees (after 10 min.)
I no longer have the CPU overheating, so it no longer goes up to 100 degrees in Cinebench R23 and it stays cooler otherwise too.

The only settings affecting the CPU and memory I make are these:
The performance hit on Cinebech is only a few percent for a safe operating temperature.

Oh, I forgot to mention that.
My SVID-behaviour is set to "AUTO", not "Intel Fail Save".
This also gives me cooler temperatures.

I updated to the 1661 bios. running a i9 14900K on the ASUS TUF gaming Z790 WIFI motherboard, kept getting BSOD in windows 11 pro with intel recommended bios settings, no overheating could not get it stable not sure why. rolled back to the 1658 running fine now.

That makes me cautious enough to wait and see if Asus offers another BIOS update soon. I'm currently on v1611 for my Asus TUF Gaming Z790-Plus WiFi board with no problems.

yeah, I would for sure, would not trust the new version.

I haven't had any problems with my CPU so far, no matter what I've done with it.
The new BIOS runs just as smoothly as the previous one and, apart from the current microcode, hasn't brought any improvements or deteriorations.
I already had better temperatures with the previous update, when Asus introduced the performance preferences and I set the Intel standards. With the I7-13700K you only have a choice between "Intel Default Settings" and "Asus Advanced OC Profile".
The additional choice between "performance" and "extreme" is only available with the i9s.

I've not experienced any issues with the latest microcode (0x125) and BIOS on the Apex Encore.

Odd if I set SVID-behaviour to anything but Intel Fail Safe, Unreal 5 engine games will crash, it's the only setting that causes this issue on my system. Still get the odd Access violation errors though in Edge, but disabling Hardware Acceleration seems to solve this
