After updating the BIOS on my ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WIFI motherboard from version 2402 to 2503, my Intel Core i9-13900KS processor became unstable at certain frequencies, particularly when reaching 6 GHz or higher. This instability appears to be linked to the management of AVX (Advanced Vector Extensions) loads, which place significant demands on the processor's resources.
Analysis and Cause
The management of the AVX ratio and voltage in the ASUS BIOS plays a key role. With the new BIOS versions, it is difficult to get a clear view of the actual frequencies and voltages applied during AVX loads, making it harder to precisely adjust parameters to achieve optimal stability at high frequencies.
Solution Implemented
Conclusion
However, it must be noted that my CPU can no longer sustain 6 GHz, even with the AVX ratio reduced by 4 points. This indicates that the issue persists beyond just adjusting the AVX ratio. To address these limitations, it would be ideal if ASUS BIOS provided more detailed information, including:
As it stands, it remains difficult to fully exploit the processor's capabilities, even with advanced manual tuning.
