13900KS / BIOS 0813 / Z790-E GAMING WIFI = Hard Crashes

I just spent most of the day trying to diagnose my system.
As soon as I would start Cinebench R23, AIDA64 (CPU AES/SHA3/...), or Prime 95 my system would do an immediate restart. The only solution was disabling turbo boost.
I've tried pretty much everything in the voltage, frequency, and memory realms. Finally I decided to punt and downgrade from 0813 to 0703 and now my system seems 100% stable.

System specs in my profile...

I just noticed that power limits defaulted to 253 watt in 0703 and to 320 watt in 0813. Bumping to 320 watt power limit created instability in 0703. So it has something to do with the power limit. I'll try going back to 813 and play with power limit. Will report back...

After going back to 0813 power limits switched to 320 with same instability.

It turned out to be something related to PL1/PL2 power limits. My system crashes when set over 280 watt. At 280 it seems stable.

My settings so far are:

ASUS Multicore Enhancements: Disabled
Actual VRM Core Voltage: - 0.08
Long Duration Package Power Limit: 280
Short Duration Package Power Limit: 280

Not sure why it is crashing above 280 watts... Would love to hear some ideas.

Final edit...

It was an Over Current Protection kicking in on my AX1500i. When I set CPU power to 40 amp my motherboard became stable. Something to watch with 13900KS? My system was 100% stable with 12900k.

Can you confirm if the system crashes at complete optimised defaults? This includes no XMP or memory overclocking of any kind.

What cooling?

By power limiting the CPU to 280w thermals will vary. A 13900 can pull in excess of 350w in CR20 with power limits unrestricted. If you can, upload the UEFI config txt file here by using the ASUS Profile export function.

Yes, it crashes instantly even at at default settings. The only two ways I can prevent it is by either disabling turbo or by limiting power to equal or less than 280 watt. Thanks. I'm beginning to think my MB has defective power delivery...

By default these units normally ship in multi rail configuration which often confuses some users, glad you resolved it

Maybe because mine is an older unit it does not have a single rail option.(as you can see on the screenshot, or maybe it's Corsair's software issue?)

Yes, AX1500i was a reliable workhorse for quite a few builds now. It was definitely a great investment that withstood a test of time better than MANY other components that came and went.
