Hello, after updating bios to 1801, rollback to version earlier than 1701 is not possible. For me best version is 0902, motherboard post very quickly.
I'm furious is there a way to bypass this, modify a bios file or something else?
I tried ez flash and usb flashback.
sorry for my english

You are right, for my RKL it should be 59, but the BIOS 1903 includes 57, right now i have 54 (1801).

Hi, did you have version 1801 before? If it's really faster, I might install it myself as well.

Yes. It was dead slow. Just try it and post your result here please.

I updated the bios to version 1903 and when it comes to performance tests I don't see any difference. Botting time is also unchanged. The best version was 0902, the system booted very quickly

1903 is NOT an option, unless you want up to 50% reduction in CPU performance? If I wanted the performance of an i3 or i5 I wouldnt have bought an i9.
Im still on 1701, was gonna update to 1801 but need confirmation from more than just one person that it has issues. Not sure why Asus would release a newer inferior bios than the previous one but then again it is Asus we are talking about

I updated from 1601 to 1903 and did not have any performance loss (10900k @ 5.2 GHz). Mind telling us where you get the 50% drop in performance and that it is inferior from?
Also no change in boot time.

Havent read up on downfall for a while but this article (which I havent fully read yet) from 7 days ago states "Downfall Mitigation can lead to a loss of performance of up to 50 percent under certain circumstances". Sure those are prolly rare circumstances that may not affect everyone but there are other scenarios where your CPU will be substantially slower. Even a 15% drop in performance is unacceptable for me! Intel murdered my Kaby Lake CPU w/ Spectre too, Im beginning to think its intentional to get us to purchase a newer CPU!
If you look at the 1903 bios download page description it talks about mitigations & vulnerabilities. The 15.0.45.2411V2 ME update does as well. I am staying away from both. IIRC servers are at a much higher risk than personal desktop PC's.
If anyone has any updated info or corrections about "Downfall" Im all ears? For instance I dont understand the ""opt out option". Am I not opting out by refusing to update? lol
Im guessing it means you can update the Bios,ME & microcode but opt out of the mitigations that cause the performance hit? This would be ideal if anyone knows details???

1903 does not address downfall. I did mod my BIOS to include the microcode version patched for downfall, and it indeed does drastically affect performance on some CPU benchmarks, none on others. So I dumped it and went back the to the un-moded 1903 (which has the same microcode as I had in a modded into 1601 a long time ago).

To be honest IDK if its the Bios or the ME Update that KILLS CPU performance or both but here is a SS of 1903.
Asus recommends you update ME & Bios at the same time. Bios' should update the microcode automatically when you flash a bios that contains a newer one.
Also it is important to note that there are no reports of any real-world exploits of these vulnerabilities. At least as of 8/10/2023
