Z590-E with 11700K and Samsung 990 Pro

So I can install on M2_1 or M2_2

The question is to install on which one?

M2_1 or M2_2 ? Any performance / speed difference?

The VGA will be Asus Dual 4070.

I'm asking because I guess both M2 slots are not from the same lane?

The M.2_1 slot will be the fastest as it uses the cpu's pcie lanes, the other M.2 slots use the chipset pcie lanes.

The i9-11900k has 20 pcie lanes. You can use the M.2_1 slot which uses 4 cpu pcie lanes and your gpu will still run at x16.

Thanks indeed, just if I wanna install a second Samsung 970 Pro or 960 Pro which will not be pcie 4, insert into the M2_3 or M2_4?

What's the difference in performance / speed?

According to the manual:

M.2_1 and M.2_2 support pcie 4.0 x4 (from the cpu). These will be the fastest.

M.2_3 and M.2_4 support pcie 3.0 x4 from the chipset. No difference in speed with these.
