ROG ASUS Z490-I Strix has issues!

System only stable with one DIMM installed, doesn't matter which RAM stick I use and doesn't matter which slot I use.
System unstable at XMP speeds, no matter how much I try to play with the BIOS settings. Have tried replacing RAM and PSU.

10700k, win10 64 bit, corsair RM 850x

A bunch of other people have experienced the same issue, and the only fix is to buy a different brand motherboard:

Nothing related to memory! I've been simultaneously working on undervolting my GPU to get better temps since I have a non-optimal blower fan right now which caused a few, but they were just game-only crashes (not full system) obviously due to GPU and not anything else...

This didn't fix it. Still can't pass an intel XTU stress test with XMP enabled. Appreciate the help though. Any thoughts on what to do @Shamino?

Just adding my 2 cents to this thread.

Just finished building with the z490-I strix and 10900k. I use two sticks of 16GB Corsair memory (CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16 DIMM Desktop Memory Kit).

I have enabled XMP 1 with Intel stock settings on the mobo with bios 0607. I get the advertised 3200MHz speed. I've run two games and haven't had any BSODs till now. I am yet to run stress tests.

If I can run some tests that will be helpful to verify if other Z490-I boards have a problem, let me know what I should run.

I just bought this board last weekend. Haven't used it yet because my CPU is on backorder. Oh well, back to the store it goes.

Just an FYI to those having this issue. My first Z490-I would freeze when installing windows when there were two stick of RAM installed. I RMA'ed this board and promptly bought a second board, that board had random freezing issues that got much worse when XMP I or II was enabled. ASUS replaced the first board and I swapped it out today and it was able to pass the XTU stress test with XMP I enabled. Will be RMA'ing the second board as well.

Did you get any freeze with swapped MB yet? If you didn't, that means we got a faulty batch...

It's been months and there is still no fix... I really regret buying this.

I had a single WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR crash in the last week that I attribute to memory, but otherwise I've been rock solid sitting at XMP I. I use the PC all day every day since I'm working from home so I had a pretty reasonable test of it... Haven't really touched XMPII or any other settings, but I did manually set VCCIO and SA voltages to 1.1V since the bios auto-sets them to ridiculous levels like 1.4-1.6V which are at the upper end of operational limits...

Given the massive improvements seen in that special 0703 bios update I'm hopeful that this is fixable with bios only and doesn't require RMA. I imagine board-to-board tolerances might cause the different behavior, and they are just trying to make up for it with bios... but hopefully it's not a layout change or something more drastic 🙂

My Z490-I has this issue as well. The BIOS shared in this thread didn't help, and ASUS advised me to return the motherboard to the retailer. Can we please get an update from the engineers that are looking into it?

An update: BIOS 0704 fixes the issue for me. It's too bad that it hadn't been mentioned in this thread yet -- it's been available in the forums for 11 days.

My ROG Z490-i have the same issue, tested several day until midnight.....

Ram is HyperX Fury 3600 2x16GB HX436C17FB3K2/32, CPU 10700 non-k, tried bios 0607, 0703 specil 3, and 0704

Use XMP II(3600) will auto reboot after loaded into window, XMP II(3000) can run several seconds in XTU stress test. If only install one stick of ram, use XMP II(3600) can pass stress test. With both Ram installed, the only setting can pass the XTU stress test is default all Auto(2400)...

Then I borrowed a Trident Z Neo 3600 16x2 use XMP II (3600) setting, lower the frequency to 3200 can run 2 -3 minutes stress test before it auto reboot. This setting also can pass 3Dmark time spy 20 minutes stress test.

I feel disappointing and exhausted, it's a ROG, it should be the best ITX board brand in the market, I don't expect this experience. The memory listed may be not in the QVL, but this board preform so bad...I really don't want to RMA a new purchase board. Please, let me know how to fix this.
